Restrooms were very clean! Most employees I spoke to over the week of staying there, were very kind. However, I am a woman struggling with MS. I have a very difficult time maneuvering a walker through the snow. Therefore, I have a service dog. She is in training. One employee. That's all it took. Was one employee to set her off. This gentleman screamed at me. No pets allowed. It's posted on the door. However, I explained to him I am disabled. This is a service animal. I announced her. She had her patches on. I know my rights. He threatened and continued to the point where my service animal was getting aggressive towards him. So we turned, went and used. The restroom came out and he was on the phone with the state police so I kindly interrupted his phone call. Said Mr officer sir I am a disabled woman with a service dog in training. If I am allowed to take her on an airplane and she can sit next to me why can I not have her in a restroom off the interstate? He said ma'am you have every right to have her in there. That employee still was disgruntled over the fact that my dog could come in. I don't know if he was scared of animals. I tried to have compassion with him. However, his attitude towards me and my animal were very, very, very disrespectful! For those out there in the community who have a service, animal and or an emotional pet where you can take him into places like that. Just be careful. Make sure you announce that you're going in and some people just react the way they react. Do your business. Don't let them bring you down. Stay positive. Other than that, Belleville rest area was a beautiful place to stay!...
Read moreMost definitely approached by a creep while I was standing near the picnic table smoking and stretching my legs. When asked for the second time "Are you sure you're ok? You have everything you need?" I made it clear that I was not interested in his proposition and I continued minding my own business. He went to his vehicle (gold colored GMC Envoy type of vehicle, roughly about 10-15 years old) but he did not leave. I did not leave, he had not had a chance to see my license plate and I wasn't giving him the chance. He sat in his vehicle staring at me, so I started taking pictures of him. I headed to get pictures of his license plate, as I was taking pictures he got out of his vehicle and came back over to me. This time asking "how many lumens?" I replied "it's a camera, not a flashlight" we exchange a few words. I made him aware I was taking his picture because he was creeping me out. He quickly walked back to his vehicle and drove away. I did not pull off immediately, as I needed to gather my bearings and again I was not giving this creep a chance to get behind me if he decided to pull on the shoulder of the freeway. A gentleman across the road approached me asking what was going on and if I was ok? I told him about the entire exchange. He said this guy has been targeting this rest stop however he was known for approaching men. I was also told her drives a burgundy colored SUV from time to time. I'm going to try to attach a few pics I have. From behind, I could understand his confusion however once he saw my face and heard my voice, there's no denying I'm a female. I intentionally dress a certain way when I'm working...
Read moreDon’t take your children. Bad reviews didn't populate until I wrote a bad review, so I edited this. First, there were two cars that clearly had people living out of them when we pulled up. Fine, I don't know your story. Then, We went to the Women's restroom, and the first door was unlocked, then all the rest locked until the end.... nobody inside... I had my 5 year old with me, so we went to the last stall, and there was blood spatter from the toilet paper hanger and onto the door.. at this point I picked her up and left. On our way out, at the end of the lot, there were 20-30 dilapidated cars, some had family photos in the windows, most were covered with black cloth or silver covers...people are living here. No, we didn't have an issue with the people, but I had a 5 year old with me, and blood spatter? This wasn't just a little bit. Multiple people have asked me why I didn't report it, or take photos.
Yes, now that I am in the safety of my own home, I should have, but at the time had a 5 year old to protect. Look at my google review history, I never write reviews.. as a parent, you know...
