Keegan Variety Store & Deli — Local services in Van Buren

I heard alot of good things about this place from a few locals who come here for food. So I decided why not. I heard the Philly subs were pretty good. An when arriving was rather appalled by the actions of the supposed manager there. Being overall snarky and disrespectful to the other employee there. Saw her sitting down on her phone while forcing a what looked to be pregnant employee to clean junk off the walls. When asked about it she said an I quote. 'This is what happens when you talk back.' in this snarky tone.

When approaching the individual later on she reported this manager has been trying to forcibly make the environment of work hostile. By overall disrespecting their partner for being disabled and having to work quoting 'He is a man child.' while her herself acting like a child. As the person from before reported the manager would say the owner 'would listen to me because he values my word over anything.'

Overall not impressed by the way the ship sails. The owner himself seems like a rather nice guy, but allowing managers who willing disrespect their employees without proper consequences is a no go for me.

This place will always be in my memory. Renting VHS tapes and video games, buying penny candies and candy cigarettes, and getting little cups of vanilla ice cream with chocolate (or strawberry) sauce on the top. Not sure if new owners, but the place has been remodeled. Basic c-store items. Plus is a small deli doing breakfast sammies and pizza, and hot and cold sandwiches and traditional pizza the rest of the time. Friendly and helpful, and the food...
