My family was driving through Vernon on our way home from a camping trip. We saw a sign that said: Restrooms, Gas, and Cafe 1/4 mile. We stopped to use the restroom and planned to purchase some snacks. Posted on the door was a sign that said a purchase was required to use the restrooms. I had planned on buying something anyways so this wasn’t a problem. We walked in and the the man I assume to be the owner aggressively asked if we saw the sign. I replied yes and that we would buy something. We walked towards the bathroom and the man reminded us again that we needed to buy something if we were using the restroom. I assured him that that we would. Two of my children went into the bathroom and the other two waited outside the doors. I stood by them. The man in an angry tone told us to move because we were blocking the hallway. I turned to look at him with confusion because the hallway we were standing in was a dead end with nothing but bathrooms and I didn’t understand his angry tone. He raised his voice and told me he didn’t like the look I was giving him which confused me even more. I’m not sure what he thought he saw in my face, but it was confusion, anxiety, and disbelief that a grown man would be so aggressive and angry towards a woman and her children. I explained that I wasn’t trying to be disagreeable, my children were just waiting to use the bathroom. He told us not nicely to move because it was a safety hazard. He then reminded me again that I needed to buy something. We moved and went to look for something to buy. We finished using the restroom and I made a purchase. The young man that worked the register was polite. I don’t understand the rudeness that was shown to me and my children. We were happy to comply and buy something. I can’t imagine what we did to deserve such unkind and hostile treatment. Long story short, would...
Read moreWe specifically came to this place after our camping trip because some of our party had told us they really liked the food there. 8 of us walked into the store and were clearly standing at the counter looking at what we were going to order from the menu. There is indeed a sign on the front door that's says "Please help support our business. No free bathrooms". Great. That's fine. We were going to order. So 1 of our party heads to the restroom while the others are going to order. The man behind the desk, without even skipping a beat, yells at them asking if they saw the sign on the door and moves his head, indicating our party member to get away from the bathroom. Note, our party member never used the restroom because he felt uncomfortable after that interaction. Meanwhile, the rest of us are standing there in shock like does he not see us standing here waiting to order? We discussed leaving right then and there, but decided he probably just needed a hug and to continue ordering. Upon making sure everyone had their order in, we double checked with the party member who tried to use the restroom that they didn't want anything as they didn't because they man was rude. Then the man topped it off and said "Oh he's just butt hurt because of the bathroom thing". We decided to go. We told him to cancel our order and we were leaving. When he told us we didn't have to do that, we replied that we were business owners too and that he should have been a bit more kind. To which he replied by telling us not to tell him how to run his business and to get out. We will never recommend this place to anyone and our party members won't recommend them anymore either. If there's anything you take from this it should be that kindness...
Read moreI do not usually write negative reviews, but this was a terrible experience for our family.
Our young daughter needed to use the restroom as we were passing through Vernon. So we decided to pull over and stop at the Silver Sage. BIG MISTAKE.
We noticed a sign on the door that said a purchase is required to use the restroom. We respect that, so my husband grabbed his wallet before we walked in with the kids.
I also had some garbage from earlier in our car ride that I wanted to throw away while we were there.
Immediately when we walked in, the man behind the counter barked at me that I was not allowed to bring in outside garbage. Confused, I looked around. He barked at me again, saying it was against the health code to bring garbage in. I apologized and walked back out to our van with the little sack of garbage.
Meanwhile, the man asked my husband if he had read the sign about bathroom use. My husband replied yes and that we were planning to buy something.
As my husband & kids walked down the little hall toward the restrooms, the man then rudely told the kids they were in the way and to “shove over”??
My husband immediately grabbed the kids & left. My daughter was crying because she didn’t want to get back in the van… knowing she was probably going to pee her pants.
As we were getting the kids buckled, the man came out to the parking lot & stared us down as he walked by our car.
Please, please avoid taking your family here. Unfortunately, we are not the only ones who have had a...
