Big Thicket Outfitters — Local services in Vidor

My family and I had a great experience at Big Thicket Outfitters. Originally we planned to camp at Big Thicket Preserve and Kayak with Big thicket Outfitters, but a road closure and weather led us to camp last minute at Big Thicket Outfitters. I called the owner Gerald late Friday afternoon when I was about 40 miles out, needing a place to stay. Gerald was accommodating and quickly got the property prepared for the six of us camping. It was already dark when we arrived and he made sure we had light to set up our tents and had a fire going.

The weather conditions never let up so we didn’t get to kayak; however Gerald checked in on us over the weekend and remained flexible with rescheduling, hoping the rain would reach a calm. The rain poured but his property ended up being a haven for us. We had camp fire and some covering from the rain. Extremely appreciative of his hospitality.

The property is nice with a private lake and trails near bye. Even with the rain we could see how peaceful the property was. At night we heard owls and enjoyed the moonlight. Hoping one day we can come back and enjoy the full experience in...

I call 2 weeks in advance of trip was told to call back closer to the day requested. Tried to ask questions about the services provided. I was told there were 3 options on village creek 9 miles, 7 miles and 3 miles. He said the 9 mile was to long for a day trip so I tried to book him for the 7 mile run and was told to just call back closer to day of trip. Called a week before was told to call a few days before. Called the Wednesday before the Saturday I wanted to go was told he was going to be busy that day. When I mentioned I had been trying to book the trip for 2 weeks Gerald acted like he didn't know why he would tell me such a thing. He asked if I wanted to do the 3 mile run on village creek. When I told him that we wanted to the 7 mile run He told me he could not make any money on that run and acted like I was inconveniencing him...

We had the absolute best time out there this past weekend. Great amenities. Covered seating, 110v power to plug in the fans (He even loaned us one) A clean bathroom with running water so no port-o-cans. The lake was amazing. We brought kayaks but he had a few as well and a couple of paddle boats. Absolutely worth the trip and a very reasonable price. Can't wait till the next time we...
