We really enjoyed this little bit of nostalgia. The staff are amazing. The facilities are well kept. The food from the snack bar tasted great and had some huge portions. This drive in is run as a non-profit, and has a truly âdown homeâ feel to it. It pays tribute to the original owners of the drive in, while running first run movies on a state of the art projection system. My only suggestion would be to elevate the projector, or restrict walking/driving in the first lane directly in front of the projector once the movie begins. It is a little annoying to have a shadow of a head, or vehicle roof panning across the screen every few minutes. Beyond that, this was an amazing experience. We live several hours away, and try to visit whenever we are passing through. Be sure to try it out. You will have a wonderful evening.
Some helpful hints: Bring some folding chairs, a little bug spray, and a blanket. If you have a pickup truck or large SUV, an air mattress works well too. The parking spaces provide ample room for sitting outside your vehicle. If sitting outside, bring a FM radio to listen to the movie soundtrack. We tried using our car stereo, but it just didnât provide enough clarity for listening while...
Read moreWe were there with our son 40 years ago when we stopped at the Buena Vista Motel on our way to Lynchburg, I was pregnant with our daughter at the time as well. We were looking for something to occupy him and found the Drive in. My husband and I grew up going to drive in movies at home so we were thrilled to introduce it to our son. It was a great experience then, lots of old cars, big crowd, the mountains at sunset... One of our best memories ever as a family. It's great to see it still thriving.
On our way back home last year from our daughter's house in Eastern Tennessee, we had our oldest grand daughter, 21 and our youngest 3, coming back home with us and we took a detour through a little town due to an accident on the interstate. When we drove through the town I told my husband it's Buena Vista! We told our oldest granddaughter the story of our last visit when I was pregnant with her mom. We plan to stop by the town on one of our frequent trips back from Tennessee this year. Great...
Read moreThis is the best drive-in I have been to, out of a dozen or so I've visited. The area is very maintained, the screen and supports are all remodeled / new, they have a very high resolution / professional projector that is crisp, and the sound is great over the radio, speakers by the cars, plus the speakers around the snack area. There is a ton of food at the snack bar, hamburgers, popcorn, pretzels, hot food, cool drinks, ice cream, at least two or three dozen things to choose from. They offer two movies for the price of one, and the prices per person are half of what they are at the theater per person for first run movies. I've been to this location 15-20 times and never had a bad experience or even a "meh" experience (other than the occasional bad movie, not the fault of the staff of course), it's always been a blast for a date, a few adults, or groups with kids. Bring a chair and sit behind your car, the views are great from nearly any spot you...
