I have family in East Texas and have visited Caddo Lake numerous times over the years but had never actually been on the lake, which is a gorgeous, mysterious place that is not to be missed. I only happened upon Mike's tour and am so glad I did as I couldn't recommend it more highly. Mike is a consummate guide who knows the intriguing, winding lanes of Caddo Lake intimately. We took a longer than usual three-hour tour with him. Accompanying us were our large dogs. Mike was most accommodating and imparted loads of information about the lake, its wildlife, and its intriguing history. How someone can speak for three hours is beyond me, but Mike did so and was thoroughly entertaining. Perhaps it is his background as an educator that comes out in his tour. I asked Mike if he could show me an Alligator and he tried his best to make that happen for me! He agreed to an early morning trip (at 7:30) so we would have the best chance. When I went this morning, he and his wife were super hospitable. They even let me borrow a jacket because I was not aware that it would be so cold in the morning. His house ( where his boats are docked ) was super easy to find as well. On the lake, Mike was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide. I learned many new things about the lake like shady paddling spots and the location of historical speakeasys! I saw a lot of wild life, even a hawk diving for a fish. My son and I were in the area over Thanksgiving, and Mike took us on a boat tour of the lake. He took us in the smaller mud boat, and we had a great time. Mike has been fishing on the lake for a lot of years, and had a lot of interesting information about the area and the lake. I was a bit concerned that my 6-yr-old would get restless being in a boat for an hour-and-a-half, but he was fascinated with all the sights and didn't get bored. Of course, the cooler weather ensured we wouldn't see any gators, but we did see various birds and just enjoyed the time out on the water.
