Updated: I truly said whatever fish would be fine. Not whatever having fish or not. The owner offered two time slots: Friday afternoon and next Tuesday morning. When I asked him whether there were any differences, he said no. If the owner truly raised the concern of difficulty of fishing due to heavy traffic on Friday afternoon, we would definitely have changed the date. We only got two small ones that day, not “a few”. I respect the hard work of our guide bc he did try 6-7 spots for us and him to try. That’s why we still paid 60 dollars’ tip with no fish back home. But the owner blames everything on us. He never responded until this Google review.
07/15 post:
20 days after the guided trip, I feel I have to state what happened. I chose Schroeder’s bc all five stars comments with several big fishes caught. My friends and I only fished a couples of times but before the Friday afternoon trip, the host was very positive about catching fishes and we believed so. Plus, my friend came from Baltimore for this event.
However, with the whole four hours on the boat, we only got two small sea basses and got them released. The 40-year experienced guide only got a small sea bass at the beginning of the trip and then same as usgot nothing afterwards.
The owner and the guide says it was bc the heavy traffic on Friday afternoon. I understood Friday afternoon often busy but they never mentioned this at all before I booked this guided trip! It is hard to imagine expects did not know Friday is busy and still host full-charged guide with no fishing caught. They finally changed for the same price 450 dollars plus 60 dollars as tip. We paid 500 bucks but carried our empty ice box home. I felt sorry for my friend coming a long way but got nothing.
Afterwards, I contacted the owner to talk about no fish situation but he only said a simple sorry and do not reply anymore.
If I am going to have a 500-dollar guided trip again, I definitely will go with another one who takes “no fish back home no pay” seriously and treat...
Read moreBooked a trip with Gregg on Sunday, 4 June. Nothing but great things to say about the entire experience. Everything from initial contact to wrapping up the outing was exceptional. Gregg was very timely in responding to emails (usually same day, sometimes within an hour) and went out of his way to work with our schedule. He's personable, entertaining, and really seems to be in it to share his fishing knowledge and experience with others. We booked a 4 hour outing for "hottest bite going". 3 out of 4 of us caught multiple fish in the 4 hours. One guy was almost shutout (that would be me), but Gregg stayed on the water an extra 45 minutes at no additional charge to allow me to catch two Pike. Gregg said there hasn't been a shutout on his boat in 8 years (glad I wasn't the streak buster). Altogether we caught 14 Pike, 1 largemouth bass, and 1 panfish. Some of the Pike were too big to keep, but we still came home with 8 fish. Great time all the way around. Would book again in a heartbeat and would give 10/10 stars if possible. I can't imagine a better guide...
Read moreI’d be shocked if there is (or ever was) a better fishing guide than Gregg Schroeder.
The fishing weather was absolutely terrible, and the rumor was that no one had caught a muskie on the lake in almost a week (leading up to an unusual and rapidly warming Labor Day)…despite the conditions, Gregg helped us catch a muskie, a nice northern, and a great walleye for my Dad. What else could you ask for under the circumstances?!?!?
To top it off, there was a lot of pressure on Gregg since I mentioned that this was a bucket-list trip for my Dad (who had never caught a muskie). Not only did Gregg deliver on that muskie, but he got us the trifecta. Simply amazing.
Thanks again Gregg. Those memories with my Dad (the stories, the laughs, and the excitement of bringing in those fish) mean more than words can describe. I cannot thank you enough, and I wish you many more years of successful...
