Unsafe Mold Report & Misleading “Normal” Classification Servpro was hired to conduct air quality testing for mold in my apartment in Burlington, IA in August 2025. The lab report they provided clearly showed that indoor mold counts were many times higher than outdoor levels — including Penicillium/Aspergillus levels more than 30 times the outside baseline — yet they still marked the results as “Normal Range.”

According to Iowa public health standards and widely accepted residential guidelines (IICRC S520, EPA IAQ, NYC DOH), indoor spore counts should be equal to or lower than outdoor levels. Servpro’s own numbers showed the opposite, which indicates an active indoor mold source, but this was never acknowledged in their classification.

This misleading “Normal” label has been used by my landlord to avoid remediation, leaving my family — including an infant — living in unsafe conditions we reported back in 2023. In my view, this is a serious lapse in professional responsibility and public health awareness.

If I could give zero stars I would. The absolute worst customer service that I have ever experienced in my life! We had a sewage backup in our basement, when Servpro came after 48 hours of the basement being soaked with water, they weren’t going to take the carpet out or any of the sopping wet furniture! They stated that it would dry out and not grow mold. I called Anthony and told him the carpet needed to be removed along with the furniture that was ruined and he tried arguing with me, he was extremely rude! He ended up throwing items away without permission and without taking inventory. They later came back to tear out the walls (without telling us) and when they did that they took all of the electrical wiring out of the outlet boxes and broke multiple outlet boxes. By them doing this we had to spend thousands to have an electrician fix their mess! I spent three weeks trying to get ahold of Todd Ernest, only for Rhonda to tell me that “he would get back to me.” I finally got his cell phone number from a family member and got ahold of him all for him to tell me that they didn’t break anything or do anything wrong. ServPro of Burlington provided excellent service and outstanding repair for water damage in our home. After a long weekend, we returned home to a faulty refrigerator line that had leaked throughout our main floor, through the basement ceiling, down the wall and onto our finished basement floor. We called them on a Sunday evening and they promptly responded to our call. They arrived soon after and had equipment in place to start the drying process on that same Sunday night!
