I don't remember this visit two years ago, as I've been coming for 20-30 years probably; it may have even been before their new store opened. And the new store is AMAZING. It reminds me very much of a Cabela's store with the wide and comfortable aisles and all the shiny and beautiful woodwork. I thought for sure (& sadly even said as much while they were building) that their prices would skyrocket to pay for the new building, especially one so nice as this. I'm so happy that I was so wrong! Their prices are still fantastic. Wonderful homemade, fresh-pressed apple cider (from their own apples); large variety of anything you could think of; beautiful home decor section; free (small donations very welcome) coffee corner; bulk items, even spelt flour (!), for the most wonderful prices; and let's face it, nobody does baked goods around here like the Mennonites do. Their baked goods are simply Heavenly. My kids and I absolutely love their apple selection as well! We always spend forever in here, come out with tons of stuff (most homemade or grown locally), and never spend a fortune like you would somewhere else. We adore this place; always have and likely always will. We'll be back.. repeatedly. To the people throwing a fit about masks? Nobody said you were required to shop here, and it's simple: we trust that whatever God decides is going to happen is what is going to happen, with or without a mask. I'm not against masks, per say.. I will wear them out of respect for other people, but I certainly don't wear them because I'm worried about it. If you're terribly worried about it either don't shop here or read your Bible and get right with God; then you can cast all your fears on Him. You won't be as worried. 😉🤗 REPLY to owner's comment: You all are...
Read moreThe new store is brighter, cleaner and more spacious than the old store it replaced. Better parking as well.
Three stars due to the fact a great many manufactured food items offered in the store are past the expiration date and comingled with the fresh instead of being pulled or clearly marked with "reduced for quick sale". Consequently, we always need to be especially mindful to check this before purchasing as perishable items like yogurt and milk spoil quick enough as it is.
The deli is well-stocked and competitively priced so we sometimes buy lunch meat and cheeses here (though I do have some concern about how fresh it is due to the fact so many items in the store are past expiration).
Notwithstanding, the fact Whispering Pines offers nice produce and quite a few specialty, niche, and bulk food items makes it worth a quick stop in after doing primary grocery shopping elsewhere. Especially appreciate the wide array of bulk candy, oils, spices, baking supplies, nuts, fruits, and veggies.
The people who own, operate, and staff the market are mild-mannered, soft-spoken, and a bit shy and introverted as is often the case in Amish/Mennonite communities. Nevertheless they are always...
Read moreWent to this store because their baked goods and deli are absolutely fantastic. It’s an hour drive, plus have a great selection of food varieties. However when time to check out was sooo disappointed at how rude and inconsiderate the cashier was. Tried to ask get 3 questions and she totally ignored me. It was not a matter of not hearing because a lady was inquiring about the grape juice by the door as she was at the door and the cashier had no problem hearing her and engaging with her. Have never experienced this type of rudeness at this store before, but I will think twice before I go again to shop. The young lady with red cast to her hair and glasses may not be the best choice for customer interaction. The other individuals with us commented as to why do we travel that far...
