A solid 4.5 out of 5, however I've only played Reds on this course. There's also "Golds/Yellows" a "pitch and Putt" and I believe something else...
There is a day pass fee, which pays for the employees and upkeep on the courses. Don't be surprised, it's well groomed and worth the money. I believe I paid $25 ish for a gold cart rental and a day pass!
For Reds, definitely rent the golf cart! You can do the course without it, however just know that even with a cart I logged 24,000 steps over two rounds of Reds. I could imagine that you might be walking a bit more since some holes are a bit of a drive, even with the cart.
I will say, there are definitely some holes on the Red tees that could be a Par 5. They have signage that says it was designed with amateurs in mind, but that's simply not the case for a few holes. That being said, it is a golf course turned disc golf course and so it will have 500 to 600+ feet holes and there will be some difficulty if you don't drive 300+ feet.
The biggest suggestion I can make for this course is, learn your discs, how they fly and which discs work best for longer range (for your arm and experience). How you do this is by finding an open field and throwing every disc you have, over and over, until you get a consistent flight pattern and distance from each one. This could take some time. But don't let this discourage you from coming to kayak point. You can definitely come play the Reds and get a feel for the course before you're super comfortable with your discs and arm.
Outside food and drink are not allowed, however the clubhouse has sandwiches, snacks, water, brewskis (like IPA's and such) and a huge selection of discs, bags, accessories and more! The initial cost for a cart and a day pass is about $25, so come prepared!
This course can get busy, so please be mindful of smaller or faster groups behind you. You shouldn't have too much issue finding a disc, unless you griplock it or heixer it way off the passed the rough. Just be courteous and let people play through. But also remember that any marked discs (name and number), found and returned to the clubhouse, does get contacted and given 90 days to pick up from the clu house. So, it's long as it's marked and someone is honest in returning it to either you or the clubhouse, then don't spend too much time holding people or yourself up looking for it.
They do have guys that come around on a gator (aka black golf cart) dont worry!! They will make sure you are following course rules and having fun! All of which are good people and I encourage you to say hi and be...
Read moreFirst off, I want to say the layout of the course is a lot of fun. A lot of potential on certain holes.
Now with that said, I can't say this any other way. There are no fairways. It looks like they haven't mowed anything in weeks if not months. Greens are rock hard. Can't hold a wedge from 75. Greens rolled okay on but were concrete and the cups haven't changed locations in weeks as well.
The tees looked like they weren't mowed in weeks either, just weed whacked. It was very disappointing. I've heard good things from years ago from Kayak, but it sounds like they really let the place go. Probably having to do with new owners, because my playing partner mentioned it looked 180 degrees different then when he was there a few years ago.
Staff was awesome, friendly, helpful. No issue there.
I'm speaking purely on the golf course condition.
The bunkers were filled with huge stones and had zero sand in them. Couldn't even rake cause you would hit clay below the half inch of sand max.
I can safely say that I don't know what could make me go back to Kayak. Unless there is a ownership change. I'm sure there is something behind the lack of water and no mowing of the course other than just laziness. I hope something changes at Kayak because has great potential, but a...
Read moreThe course is pretty nice, but the price to play, and all the rules, Im not a big fan of. The frisbee golf and golf worlds are different. Frisbee golfers like the sport because it's free or cheap to play, and we can have a good time by bringing our own drinks and snacks. Golf is not cheap to play, and you always have to purchase drinks and snacks from the clubhouse and there are a bunch of rules to abide by. Kayak is trying to combine both worlds, and I for one don't really like it. I heard the price was cheap, but then they recently raised it. The course is nice, but we had a worker watching us the whole time enforcing rules. My friend and I aren't a couple of punk kids either. Like I said, the course is great, but I didn't really care for the experience and not being able to bring in outside food and drinks. I get that they have to make a profit because it's a business, but I prefer the other free courses like Lake Stevens where you can bring in your own drinks and just have a good time. I give Kayak about 2.5 to 3...
