Despite being the cheapest course in the DC area it is still not worth the money. The front 9 is downright dangerous and I’d almost recommend a helmet. I’ve never seen so many shots fly within feet of me while standing in an adjacent tee box, and this has occurred on several occasions so it isn’t due to a one-off bad golfer nearby. The “5-loop” is borderline unplayable and if your standard shot is left-right you have no hope. There are overgrown trees in front of multiple tee boxes and the “fairway” is basically concrete with sparse patches of weeds. The greens are in horrible shape and have been shrunk again this year. The tees have clearly not been moved in ages and are entirely dirt, and the dirt is so packed you can’t push a tee into it. I think they gave up on maintenance until the redevelopment starts.

We had a great day golfing on this hilly challenging executive golf course. Jimmy and Jerome, the Pro Shop employees, are friendly and helpful. Doug and Cowboy are both pleasant starters. The pace of play was perfect. We saw deer, a wild turkey, and many birds on this course. I could only give it 4 stars as the golf carts and cart paths are super worn out. We are excited to hear they will upgrade this course in the near future. We plan to play this course again, admist it's age. It is a beautiful setting, and the hills make for a great practice for us amateurs. Thanks, Rock Creek Park Golf Course!

Lower your expectations and you'll have a great time. Sure, you might be "greeted" by a blank stare and no hello from the pro shop cashier, and yes the course is in rough shape... but the overall vibe is great. Great bird watching and scenery in the heart of the city. This place will be truly special when they renovate it -- a day I'm very much looking forward to -- but I know that when that day comes, I will also feel nostalgia for what the course is today... the "good old days" of Jurassic Park scenery and seemingly no rules.

Let me preface this review with two notes:

I barely write reviews on anything.

This review is subject to my experience with the employees, not Rock Creek Parks Golf Course as a location or my time on the green.

I arrivedearly at RCP for my 12:30 Tee TIme today (10/5/25) and went up to the counter to check in. After standing there with my group of 3 for about 20 seconds we said "hello" to the man behind the desk as he had far more important things happening on his phone with his feet up. Another 10 or so seconds later the man still ignored us until I said "I have 12:30 Tee Time, I just want to check in". Very rudely he said something to the tone of: "You want to give me a name or something?" I provided him with the name of our reservation and said "We also rented some clubs online" to which he said "No you didn't". Here he was correct as I did not book the reservation and thought we had; ( ok, but we still needed the clubs?). Irregardless it was rude and unprofessional. Eventually he rang us up and we were on our way. This whole interraction may not seem like much but his whole demeanor had me questioning if I had just slapped his mother in front of him, so much so that I had to ask my friends if I was in the wrong or had a poor tone. I am very new to golf, this was my second experience outside of a driving range and frankly I will not be returning. East Potomac will have my business...

Perfect place to work on your game if you want to improve by playing real golf versus hitting balls at the range. Candidly, it’s not in great shape. The fairways don’t get watered so in dry times, some holes are borderline unfair. I’ve lost balls many times after landing in the fairway because the fairway is rock hard and the ball rolls and rolls. The greens are fairly beat up but they do get regular water so they play fairly and look healthy. There’s not really any rough; what I assume was once the rough is fully overgrown with thickets and weeds so you really do need to be precise in your drives or risk losing your ball. Bring bug spray. The first couple holes are extremely buggy with clouds of gnats pestering golfers - especially after rain. I think the bugs are so prevalent because of the overgrowth off the fairways and greens.

All these critiques are accurate and fair but you can still find me there at least once a week with a smile on my face because I am the kind of golfer I describe above—love the game but still sorting out my swing so it would pointless to spend a ton of money at the nicer courses around town. I am happy to have a place in my neighborhood where I can go play nine holes of real golf for a low price even if it’s not exactly in country club shape (by far) while I work on getting up to the level where a nicer course...

An Unforgettable Golfing Experience

From the moment I arrived, it was clear this golf course is something truly special. The grounds are immaculately maintained, with lush fairways, pristine greens, and breathtaking views at every turn. Each hole offers its own unique challenge, striking a perfect balance between playability and strategy — ideal for golfers of all skill levels.

The staff were exceptionally welcoming and professional, going out of their way to ensure everything ran smoothly. The clubhouse is beautifully designed, offering a comfortable place to relax after a round, with top-notch food and drink options that exceeded expectations.

What impressed me most was the attention to detail — from the seamless check-in process to the GPS-enabled carts and the thoughtful course layout. It's clear that the team here takes great pride in creating a world-class experience.

Whether you're a seasoned golfer or just looking for a memorable day on the links, this course is a must-visit. I can't...
