I am so appalled by the way the owner handled my complaint, I don't even know where to begin.
I was looking at Facebook events and a Farmer's Market popped up. The photo for the event showed their property with dozens of tents and vendors. Not ever having been to the farm myself I was unaware they didn't actually grow or sell produce (at least not that I saw when I was there), they mostly sell local goods and the milk through other vendors/local farms through a sign up program. (So there aren't any "farm products" to walk in and buy despite the fact that the store front is full)
The event was listed as starting at noon, and my husband arrived shortly after and took a tour of the store. By 12:30 there was no other car on the lot but ours and one other car......no vendors, no nothing. We sat on the bench outside the store and waited. Nothing.
I posted to the facebook event a civil comment saying I was disappointed that no actual vendors showed up and I had driven a pretty long way to get there, all for nothing, and ended up by saying I was pretty pissed off. After I posted that, a vendor posted, announced themselves as a vendor, and said they were set up on time and basically that I was a liar and then told me to ** off. Then she had her friends come into the event and make nasty comments also, and the drama went on from there. Everything from "I can go to walmart if I don't like it" to "I must be off my meds".
I sent the farm a message with my original complaint, and linked to the event and the vendor comments. I pointed out to the owner that her FB event doesn't link to her page or have many details. It's not like anyone seeing the event KNOWS it's a "new" or "grassroots" effort. Maybe she (or the vendors) just didn't realize that FB events can stand alone in a list of local events, and aren't just viewable to people who "like" their page and who might already know all about the company. I feel like I gave them the benefit of the doubt there.
THEY TOOK ZERO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIER FALSE ADVERTISING.
The owner messaged back (IE: in private, not in public like her vendors had done) saying no one speaks for her and that basically if I can't be patient with her grassroots effort to start a free market then I might be best served elsewhere because clearly I was starting drama.
Far be it from me to drive 20 miles and expect an actual farmer's market. The owner sent me a s message saying, and I quote: "I am sorry you feel disappointed, but give me a few years to cultivate this project and hopefully the next time you visit, you will have a better experience."
A FEW YEARS????
Regardless of what the owner says in private she's responsible for vendors using her land and her name whether they pay to set up at her event or not and they do reflect on her whether she wants them to or not.
So much for this being a "Christian" establishment. Behavior like this is what ruins small businesses and why so many people don't want to support local businesses. No "real" company would ever treat a customer like this:
"I apologize for your disappointed attitude, but there is no need for drama here. You came out, you weren't pleased, you told me about it, I gave you my response and apology for your experience. End of story. The market is only in it's 5th week of operation and if you do not have the level of patience it takes to understand that, perhaps you will be best...

Read morePerfect place to find the best items, all local made/farmed. I always find something new, whether it's a new cheese (green onion cheese is AH-MAZING!), a new candy for my son (who wouldn't love candy shaped like Lego pieces?) Or local milk that comes in adorable glass bottles. We insist on using their fried chicken batter for our chicken that tastes better than KFC, even baked. Fresh baked breads and cookies, and even local meats that are a higher quality than anything you can get at a regular grocer. Definitely worth the stop. And Karen is extremely helpful and knowledgeable with any...
