I have so many thoughts in my head that I’d like to say about Mount Madonna fighting to be written down first, but I suppose that the overwhelming feelings of being present on the mountain are those of peace and connection. I feel it in the air that blows in from the ocean down below in the valley and also in the ground beneath my feet, as if ancient knowledge is saturated into the earth. I see it in the eyes of the staff and residents, as if they hold a mysterious secret truth that is rooted in the wisdom of traditional Ashtanga yoga that they practice and teach. And I feel it in my body from the food they prepare, much of which is grown in the bountiful garden that has been flourishing for 50 years. Read moreI stayed here for a Personal retreat night. The place is beautiful and serene. The fog-clad views and the beautiful hiking trails were wonderful. Those who are religiously inclined will find the temple nice albeit a bit crowded on Saturdays. Overall very clean and well-maintained property. However - I was very disappointed with the activities I was planning to do. The Saturday afternoon Yoga class was replaced with something else (not updated on the website), Sunday Yoga class was removed (it was there when we made the reservation). The tea bar could have a bit more fruits or other snack options. I would have wanted to come again if some of the basic...
Read moreI recently attended a 9-day retreat at Mount Madonna Center, guided by an outside teacher, and was deeply touched by how beautifully the center supported the experience. The land is breathtaking—towering redwoods, blooming gardens, ocean and sunset vistas, and a peaceful outdoor temple. Hiking trails wind through the forest, with deer, wild turkeys, and countless surprises I’ll leave for you to discover.
The peace is profound—no traffic, just nature. The center is clean, well cared for, with delicious meals, warm teas, and kind, attentive staff. Our group connected wonderfully with the on-site team, and I look forward...
