Hidden gem in the hills surrounding Watsonville, CA. I’ve been playing golf around the central coast for more than 20 years. There are many great courses in the area, including some world class facilities, but I choose to play most of my golf these days at Spring Hills. The experience at Spring Hills is always a pleasant one. The course is hidden away from the noise and commotion of the city. While you may see the occasional house, and local high school field, adjacent to the course, the majority of your round will feel like you are out on the hills with nature. It is common to see deer and other wildlife out on the course. There is a charming old clubhouse decorated with history of the club. When you walk in you are greeted by genuinely friendly staff and treated like a local, the same way a regular might be greeted at their favorite local bar. There is a nice outdoor patio area where patrons can watch approaches to the signature 18th hole. Large screen TVs on the patio allow you to enjoy the game while drinking a post round beer or eating a delicious pizza from their own brick oven. (Food options vary during the week so check ahead or while checking in) The golf course is challenging. New golfers will have their hands full avoiding the many hazards found around the course. Skilled golfers will appreciate the variety of shots required to navigate the track. Once you reach the 5th tee you will understand why it is called Spring Hills. Gorgeous vistas await you throughout the course, especially on the back nine. Those who manage to survive the front nine obstacles will be rewarded with a fun, quirky, and exciting back nine experience. The final four holes provide opportunity for your game to shine and finish your round on a high note. The practice areas are quaint and may leave something to be desired, but are more than adequate to get the job done. One thing to be aware of is the trouble with drainage during rainy periods. Best to call the course ahead of time during winter months to check on the saturation of the fairways. In the summer the course is usually in excellent shape, especially the greens. Green fees are affordable and a good value overall. New power carts are available as of 2023. Food options range from simple snacks to custom made pizzas. Adult Drink options are limited to beer and wine since they don’t have a liquor license. The beer selection is decent, with several options on tap and some others in cans. There are some secretly great wine options available, including bottles produced by the course owners own vineyard. If there were a downside to the property it would be the limited parking space. On especially busy days you may need to use the overflow parking areas left of the first hole, but on most days this isn’t an issue. No stuffy country club attitudes over here. Fun, down to earth people and relaxing days on the greens are...
Read moreWe’ve come here for several US kids tournaments and the staff here are so wonderful and warm. They provide the kids with a free hot dog, burrito or pizza after their tournament as well as hot chocolate for the kids beforehand. They go above and beyond to create a fun atmosphere. My son was 7 when he played his first ever golf tournament here and now he is 14 and still playing here. This place holds many good memories for our junior golfers and us. They also have a nice cat that hangs out at the clubhouse. As for the course, it is very challenging with drains and elevation. It is one of the more challenging courses, unlike some others that are flat. I would say it’s one of the more challenging courses our kids play on the...
Read moreHave to laugh when our two single handicap members finished their round with high 80s scores. But it was their first time playing Spring Hills Golf Course. Some blind shots, tough approaches can really inflate your scorecard numbers. On the outskirts of Watsonville and hugging the bottom of the Santa Cruz Mountain range, this part of the valley is nearly always warmer, colder, clearer weather than downtown Watsonville. It is short enough for those long hitting single handicaps, but mysterious enough to wreck a scorecard for a first time visitor. Very scenic location, tucked into the hills, small valleys and with OB , poison oak ready to send scary thoughts your way. Hella fun at Spring Hills...
