Fetter's Meat Market — Local services in West Chillisquaque Township

I was excited to try Fetter's because they seemed to have a lot of quality meat at fair prices. Went to the Sunbury location. The ring bologna I purchased was delicious, some of the best I've ever had. The ground sausage ended up being pretty good as well. However, I also purchased three chicken leg quarters. When I asked for them the clerk smelled the bag and asked his coworker when they had been delivered, and she confirmed it was that morning, so he bagged them up and sold them to me. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary as the legs and sausage were frozen almost immediately after purchasing (the ring bologna was the first thing we ate). That same week, I pulled the chicken out of the freezer, allowed it to thaw out in the fridge for a day, and when I opened the bag to cook dinner it smelled absolutely rancid. I threw the entire bag away. Unfortunately this has completely turned me off from returning to Fetter's. I would NEVER sell something to a customer that I would not consume myself, and if the clerk was second guessing the freshness he should have never handed it off to a customer, especially a raw meat. That stuff kills people. Totally disappointed. I won't speak for the quality of all of their meats and foods but unfortunately I won't be returning as I don't trust the staff to make the right decisions in regards to the health of their customers. I personally like the personal service and quality of the meats and cheeses they offer over "chain" stores and I visit Weis's at least twice a week!

Large cuts, fantastic quality, smoked meats, I've never had a complaint or issue. They also offer lunch meats and a variety of homemade pasta salads and more.

They do hoagies, our favorite is the Canadian Bacon and they offer a Thursday lunch meal deal. They have some frozen specialties- Crab Cakes, Ham Loaf and numerous other handmade frozen items. Some sodas, chips, small stock of grocery items and even bulk candy.

Finally, they have smoked bones for dogs ......

You wouldn’t think it from the outside, but this is a local gem. There was a steady stream of people coming in for subs while we were there today. And no wonder why… all large subs are currently $8.49 on Saturdays. And the subs we had were fantastic. Excellent cheesesteaks and the best Italian I’ve had in a while.
