The Johnson county fair was very fun. First off it is free to everyone which is amazing. There were tons of animals including rabbits, sheep, dairy cows, beef cows, horses, pigs, goats and all kinds of birds. You could pet almost everything and it was very up close and personal. Some of the barns the animals were in have been around since the 50s so it was also interesting to see the buildings. They had rides of kids of all ages and games too. The tickets were $1 a piece or $20 for 30 tickets. They also had instead of a sandbox, a box filled with dried corn which proved very fun. They had great food everywhere you look and even fun competitions such as hay bail throwing. My favorite thing here was the butterfly garden. They had caterpillars outside and information all about the butterflies. Then when you went inside you could hold the butterflies and allow them to land on you. It was very fun and as an adult I can say I never did that before. Also the local firemen were there and gave you a chance to check out their fire truck. This was very cool for the kids. They also had an ambulance to check out as well as some other unique vehicles. Overall this was a really fun day for the family.

Worst fair ever. Check out the new clover café in their brand new building. Most of the commercial exhibits and vendors either not setup on Saturday or left early on Wednesday. Lots of mud everywhere. Truck got stuck in the grass lot south of the fairgrounds and flung mud everywhere. No carnival. Event sound system was horrible. Events were hard to find. No traffic direction for parking. Highlights: 4H exhibits in Montgomery hall were good. New clover café building with reasonable food prices. Pork and Beef associations had good food! Model Railroad club had their work in progress exhibit open and running. Farm Bureau had a good display. Did you find any of the decorated rocks? We did.

I've been to numerous events at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. The facilities are always nice, and on a recent visit it seems like they are even better with newer and remodeled buildings. The grounds are well cared for. The people working there are friendly. It's a convenient location.

UPDATE 11/17/23--PLEASE DO NOT UTILIZE AS SEASONAL STORAGE unless you can verify that they have secured new insurance coverage. I have been through the WORST insurance experience of my life with this storage facility and their dismissive insurance.

My total financial loss will be more than $30,000.00 after repairs.

ORIGINAL REVIEW-- I actually adore the Johnson County Fairgrounds ❀ But please use caution storing anything there. They offer affordable winter storage for campers. I stored my camper there fall/winter of 2021. They move my brand new camper to a building with lower ceilings and basically tore off the roof...and I'm still in litigation.

For families and learning about agriculture, it has been a gem. But for being proactive and stand up,...
