Captain Johnny's Crab House — Local services in West Point

Called ahead to order a dozen of #1s (large males) , steamed with heavy seasoning. Woman on the phone was polite and informative. I arrive to pick up my order and noticed a gentleman and young lady working on a push mower. I spoke to them both, however they just looked right through me like wasnt even there and never opened their mouths to speak back. I'm presuming the Polite Woman I spoke to over the phone intercepted when she heard me speak and said she had my order ready. The total was 30 for the crabs and 5 for the heavy seasoning and steaming. She handed me the bag with the crabs in it. I handed her 40 cash. She said she would be back with my change of 5 dollars. She return quickly with the change. I never looked in the bag however now that I'm home and sitting down to split the dozen with my mother, I wish I had looked in the bag before I pulled off their lot. Needless to say the seasoning is not what I know to be "Heavy". There are more #2 crabs (small males) than the #1s that initially ordered and paid for. Not to mention being a professional Baker, the last time I sold a dozen of any product, it consisted of 12 pieces total. I only received 10 crabs total. Maybe it was a oversight for them however I'm a firm believer in giving a customer exactly what they are paying for. In this case, 1st time experience, and after paying 35 dollars total, I cant say I am pleased nor can I say I will be a future customer or send other potential customers to this...

Never thought I’d be saying this but the quality has really went down a couple weeks ago I got a half bushel of number 1’s. They were supposed to open at 11 and didn’t open until after 12 so I waited in the parking lot. Got home and had a handful of 1’s and the rest 2’s. Called back because the price of the crabs and traveling from Richmond is not a loss I can take. Was told I could get 20-30 dollars my next order. Go down yesterday 7/18/2025 and they are out of 1’s so I explain the discount and ask about the weight of the females and #2’s. Was told the females were the better choice. My sister got #2’s. I get to the river and I got a bag full of baby female crabs that are mostly soft and hallow. I don’t know if it was because of the discount, I offered to buy them and wait for #1’s to use it but Kris suggested we just do the dozen females and be done with the discount. Which was fine with me. It’s been a waste of time all year when I traveled down to get crabs. And. This is the first year in many that I wasn’t satisfied with the service or quality. I’ll stick to Bay Seafood for the rest of the season cause I know my number ones will actually be number ones and I’ll enjoy them. Gotta find me a new...

Super friendly, excellent fresh crabs. We drove here from Richmond because they had the only available softshells in the area. After calling around to every seafood market locally, we called and they had fresh crabs just off the truck. They held a dozen box for us and it was well worth the drive. The crabs were still kicking and were very meaty and sweet. They had the exact taste you look for when eating a fresh softshell crab and their prices were unbeatable for the value. We will return for more. I'm interested in trying the steamed hardshells. Glad we saw this place...
