Due to being the only "grocery store" before you get to Chilmark, it's obviously expensive. It's also handy, well stocked and friendly. They sell cigarettes, have rocking greeting cards. The old floors should be watched for but don't complain, they're one of the last aspects of the old Alley's. There was once a long counter where most food was asked for off the tall shelves behind the server. You would go up and ask for sugar or flour which was packaged but one choice. Then your total was put on your bill. Ms. Alley was overworked and scary for children.
As a teen I would beg to be taken down Quansoo road to their general delivery and finally I married the last one! There was a lot more hardware and very few touristy items. It was a true general store, with a scale out front which gave you a fortune. No cellphones so you went to the bank of 4 payphones in front of the old Agricultural Hall.
