I am crying writing this review. This festival will always be the most meaningful Czech festival to me.

I attended for the first time in 2015 as the Miss Nebraska Czech-Slovak Queen. I met the mayor and the mayor of the sister city of Kunovice, Czech Republic. I partook in the parade which was VERY WELL organized, and then the Parade of Authentic Kroj. (I did not have an authentic kroj at the time but was still allowed to participate due to my love of heritage.)

Texas is hot. Plain and simple. The vendors try their absolute best to have as much shade and portable fans and even out door air conditioners as possible.

There are two areas to listen to polka bands, and the pavilion where you can sit and watch entertainment all day long.

At one of the dance floors I was asked to dance by a very polite Texan man, and we kept dancing all night long. Fast forward a year, that Texan man and I are dating. Fast forward one more year, we are engaged, and next year at Westfest we will be married.

I love this festival with all my heart.

All of the volunteers are incredible, and so helpful, and just happy to see you.

My personal favorite are the bars at each dance area. Long lines of beer counters are set up where you just hand them a drink ticket and they fill your beer in your signature...

Wasn't open when we went maybe too early but it was supposedly open for 2 hours when we got there 10 dollars each to get in WAY too expensive. They were having a church service which is fine but everyone is not Catholic. i go to church as well but standing a lot holding hands and chanting some prayer was really weird and you don't have to do all that to get to heaven and if you think you do your very mistaken or haven't read the ENTIRE bible to know that and the church is not the only entity that can interpret scripture besides that the church is the people anyway not a building Also hardly any vendors were open and 0 rides running or booths open Some food trucks were open but one asked us to wait a second to take our order afmd they were organizing boxes and we just walked off i didn't want a caramel apple that bad It was pretty much a joke But we did buy a great...

We had a great time at Westfest this year, albeit only for a few hours. Lots of food, friendly vendors, great live music. My only complaint is that activities started so late in the day. It was 100+ degrees by the time things picked up and we didn't last long in that heat so we didn't end up staying for as many of the demos and performances as we'd hoped. Would be awesome if they would have some of that closer to when the gates open. Appreciated the covered spaces and free water, though. We also hoped to see more Czech- and German-inspired foods and crafts. I was specifically looking for some folk art christmas ornaments and thought this might be the place. Sadly, there really weren't too many craft vendors. Maybe next year!

Our favorite snacks- the reuben, the schnitzel, and the freshly...

The overall experience was good, with several vendors, musicians, and good food/ beer. The cultural tent was the highlight, with crafts for the kids, traditional dancing, and the kolache eating contest. The only reason for 3 stars was the unnecessarily high admission fees of $15 per adult, which really didn't get you much other than the opportunity to spend even more money inside. Much of the fairgrounds are not dissimilar to other small town festivals, with the small business vendors, typical funnel cake/ fried Oreo, and carnival, but at those you typically don't have to pay to just walk around. You remove that entrance fee, it's back up to 4-5 stars.
