I've driven past this place a few times over the years and finally decided to stop by yesterday afternoon. I was compelled to do so by one of their hand-painted signs about a mile South of them with the words "Green Plums"... something I have NEVER seen in any grocery/big box store on the Coast. Yes, they had lots of green plums to choose from, along with quite a few other fruits and vegetables. Their watermelons looked perfect, but I don't have room in my fridge for one right now.
They also had a large selection of homemade jellies and pickles. I asked the young man behind the counter who made them, and he proudly answered, "My Mom!". Along with the plums, I left with a small jar of hot pepper jelly, a small jar of scuppernong jelly (scuppernong is a variety of muscadine grape that grows throughout Mississippi), and a large jar of hot, spicy, sliced bread and butter pickles. I haven't tried the jellies yet, but the pickles are AMAZING!
If you live right along the Coast and you're looking for some things you won't find in the produce department, you might consider taking the drive up Highway 49 to check them out (I would call first to see what was available, though). Smith's is one of those "hiding in plain sight" places that turns out to be a hidden gem... I WILL be coming back for one of those...

Right now (the time this is wrote), great choices in potatoes (reds, golden, Russets, yams and sweets), onions (whites, yellows), tomatoes (beefy, Roma's, green, and several others), bell peppers, jars of honey, fruits (plums, orange etc), also watermelon and as the Golf heats up I'm confident this family operation will load more in their already packed stand with more fresh and grown nearby produce! Besides that, the family are great talkers who'll jabber your ear off, so if you got a mother-in-law, or talkative dad/pawpaw drop'em there and let them get caught up whilst you shop for things you need and may not need. They are great people regardless if you're a first timer or a regular, you will feel like a great friend leaving feeling like family - vowing to stop by the next time you come through. OBW, you can buy firewood (white or red oak) for you fireplace, or pit, or for BBQing. What else can you say, you just gotta stop by once. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed...
