With walking paths that wind for miles thru the city, & underpaths avoiding city streets, the river was reclaimed as a wilderness strip south of the city, giving animals free access thru the metro area. Some areas are fixed up playgrounds w waterchutes and a beach for dogs to play in the water, other areas are gnarly w overgrown bushes all around and a homeless encampment every 50ft. It's a neighborhood thing- down toward the south; homeless & animals not welcomed up north, w city running paths etc. An amazing wildlife refuge in Littleton is a prime birding site, as well as well-known city fishing lakes attached to the river.
