Incredibly rude staff. Been to this course twice and Iām going to leave it at that. There is an older āgentlemanā that works there. He has a very hostile way of approaching and talking to the customers of the course. My group was on the third hole and this guy rolls up on us and tells us we are holding up other players. He told us to hurry up. Mind you, we are on the putting green and there are ZERO people on our tee box. Who the ** are we holding up? No one. Then as we are making the turn he yells at me and my group assuming we are cheating the turn and that we didnāt pay for it. Probably because we are younger golfers. All I can say to the golf course is you need to get rid of that clown. The guy clearly has nothing better to do than make everyone elseās time miserable.
UPDATE - Changing from 2 stars to 1 star. I donāt know why I even bother going back to this place. Not only did I get accused of cheating the turn AGAIN, but now they have a young kid, maybe 16-17 years old going around accusing people of holding up the course. Iāll get to this clown in a second. You guys at Airport are making moves thatās for sureā¦ā¦just not the right ones.
We had an 8 AM TT and for the ENTIRE FIRST 9 we had absolutely NO ONE behind us yet we arrive and they rush us to get going right away. We finish 9, stop in the club house to pay $6 for a hot dogā¦. Need I say more? Then after spending about 6-7 minutes there we make the turn. Some random employee starts sprinting at us and yelling āwho the heck are you guys?! Did you even pay?!ā What an amazing way to start the back 9ā¦.. I pulled out my receipt that shows we had been there since 8 AM and that still wasnāt enough to satisfy. The last thing he says to me is āwell make sure you keep it movingā and at that point I was ready to get a rain check for the whole day. Donāt ever expect to come here and get quality service or behavior from the staff. The course? SO fun! Itās a shame.
Oh yeah and that kid they have driving around on a cart harassing customers! He doesnāt even try to have a conversation with you. He rolls up on you mid-swing and tells verbatim⦠āyou guys are holding up the course you need to play better or fasterā I WISH I was joking! Although that kid doesnāt understand respect, we showed it to him and increased our pace only to realize that for the remainder of the back 9 we had NO ONE BEHIND US. The group that was holding up the course was a mix of cart-riders and walkers that were north of 60 years old. They wanna take their time and they should. Just donāt accuse the wrong group you silly child.
Enjoy your well-deserved 1 star. I wish zero...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBack when I lived there, I noticed that every small town in Iowa had a family owned golf course open to the public. These were laid out in a way that made sense to the owners who had great skills in moving earth and growing grass, making for unique 9 hole tracks that were easy to get on and process your golf needs. Airport Greens is like those fun greeny pastures, laid out on what was seems like farmland next to the county airfield where Cessnas and Gulfstreams take flight. Iām a 14 index and Iāve hit 75 one week and 98 another on this course. It lets me get my reps in and if I need to work out a bad move, there is a driving range, a chipping green, and practice green -publicly accessible practice facilities are something hard to find these days. Aside from easy access, and the range, it is the people running the place, the proprietors themselves, who keep the course in decent shape despite the heavy traffic, the people who are learning, play deliberately (really slow), and donāt know how to fix ballmarks. The owners love the game and it shows in the consistently playable greens and fairways. I prefer it to some of the other public courses which welcome newcomers with a strange blend of aloofness (if not snobbery) mixed in with campground rental office charm. There are two holes that beat me up from the tips ā11 and 12, which are the giant mansions in a otherwise nice working class neighborhood of 3 bedroom ranches and Cape Cods. I will play golf in any condition, place, or weather, and prior to returning to Ohio was playing on a fancy golf course abroad in 120 degree heat. Teeing up on a crisp fall morning with stands of green topped trees and cool dewy grass is a kind of paradise to me. If you play during peak times on the weekend, expect a traffic jam, and donāt complain about it. You chose to play at that time. If you are learning to play -this is the place. Golf needs places like Airport Greens, and it needs kids and families hitting buckets of balls, or it will die off -the strange sport from a previous, more prosperous time. That was the greatest thing about those farm courses in Iowa and that is why I like Airport Greens. Complaints from me -no GHIN registration, no coffee -Iād pay 2 bucks for a strong hot cup, some consistency in pin flag colors, and some fresher range balls, and more targets at the pitching distances of 50-100 yards. Maybe a basket of ball mark repair tools. More punishment for being off target, including some traps would be a next level adjustments for some of the holes although I get that sand traps are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTook my 14-year-old there for his birthday this past weekend. There were eight of us, two groups of four. Mind you..... This is a beginner golf course and so we had a few teens/beginners.... Along with my husband and I and our older sons (who have golfed quite a bit before). Should have been a wonderful time as it was nice weather and my husband and I have been there before and the two of us have enjoyed it.
The staff was incredibly rude to all of us the entire time we were on the course! We were probably stopped about 5 times by workers in carts, namely an older man who kept chasing us down and telling us to hurry up. Telling us we were taking too long and slowing people down behind us! It wasn't our fault that they put a 24-person golf team right behind us on the same tee times!
Not to mention we took a little over 2 hours for the first nine holes. Not bad at all for timing, for our 2 groups of 4. We started around 11:00 a.m. and finished 18 holes by 3:45. For a group of beginner/intermediate players I think that timing is pretty darn good. Please explain to me how we were taking so darn long if we finished in that timing?!
The entire time we were being chased down and rudely interrupted by the workers there while we were trying to enjoy our day and my son's birthday. Besides the elderly man chasing us down in the cart, we also had a younger man come and tell us that people were complaining about us?? He threatened to kick us off the course if we didn't hurry things up when we were at hole #12. Our group was well behaved, moving along nicely and minding our own business. The workers there really put a damper on our time there on Sunday. We will never go to this golf course again or recommend it...
