Edit: A representative from "Two Men and a Truck" reached back out to me a couple of days after I left this review. They refunded some of the unexpected move cost, putting them at the higher end of their original estimate. This is still a bit more than the moves I had paid for in the past, and it would have been nice could this have been resolved privately, but I appreciate the gesture. I agreed to modify my rating accordingly.
I have used other Two Men and a Truck franchise locations for local moves several times over the years and have historically had very good luck with them. Unfortunately, my wife and I's recent move was a completely different experience.
Our small, one-bedroom apartment was packed and ready to go when the movers arrived. We disassembled all of our furniture and had all small belonging in secure boxes to make the process as quick and painless as possible for the movers. We reserved parking spaces to ensure that items were being carried as short a distance as possible.
When we had moved a similar distance with this company in the past, the same number of movers were able to get our items loaded, transported, and unloaded in under 3 hours. Since that time, we have downsized and moved quite a few of our items and furnishings to storage. Despite the smaller scale move, this time, the process took six and a half hours, and items were being moved up and down fewer flights of stairs.
As you would expect, we were charged nearly triple what this similar move had taken in the past and the movers were over their initial estimate by 75%. I understand that there is going to be some variance in speed between individuals, but when one is being billed by the hour, it is rather stressful to watch the process progress as lackadaisically as it was. Additionally, we witnessed one of the crew members pick up several loads of our items haphazardly, dropping them in the process. Some of our furniture was minorly scrapped and scuffed through the move, but nothing we can't live with. That said, we are missing a couple of items which were evidently never unloaded from the truck.
I have been trying to contact the company to discuss billing and see if it would be possible to track down our missing items. I have called several times, and each time I have called, I have been told that I would receive a call back. It has been a week now, and I have yet to hear anything.
Again, we have had good experience with "Two Men and a Truck" in the past, so I don't think the franchise should be written off, but I will likely be avoiding this location...
Read moreWorst movers I've ever used. Can't possibly recommend this company any less. Do yourselves a favor and hire anyone else if you can.
I originally requested a quote for moving from my apartment to a local storage unit. I then called and asked for the estimate to be amended to add packing services. I specifically told them that I have a lot of ceramics and breakables. I emailed the destination address of the storage locker to the company a full two weeks ahead of the moving date.
The movers showed up and said they were told it was only a packing job, apparently. They weren't very polite when they found out that wasn't the case. They also didn't bring any bubble wrap. They packed the fragile items into regular boxes between layers of my own clothes. One guy didn't have a clue what he was doing and would have just tossed some priceless vintage tea cups into a box without any padding or wrapping whatsoever. If I hadn't seen this and stopped him, they would definitely have broken.
Then they told me that my estimate was wrong and it was my fault because I never sent them the destination address. When I offered to forward them the previously sent email, they mysteriously found the email. Yet they didn't send it to the movers. A lot of the movers were cranky and rude. Laughing or complaining about my belongings. They forgot to pack up the bathroom altogether.
I fully expect at least 50% of my items to be ruined. Paintings weren't wrapped at all - just stacked at the back of the locker. As I mentioned, the delicate items weren't wrapped properly and I will likely have some expensive silk and cashmere clothes ruined by being cut or snagged by broken glass or ceramic shards.
I told them the back comes off of my sofa and armchair set. They told me the back doesn't come off the sofa and scraped it on the stairs. It doesn't fit down the narrow staircase when not taken apart and they got frustrated. Then finally figured it out and very rudely informed me that I should have known that the sofa comes apart since it's my sofa.
If this is the only available moving company, at the very least pack up your own place. These movers don't live up to their "movers who care" reputation one bit. They also didn't keep their masks on - if they were wearing...
Read moreI used two men and a truck in early February to move to a new residence. In the course of the move, I had my oculus quest 2 stolen, my laptop cracked, furniture damaged, bed frame taken apart and the hardware lost, my $4,000 safe was too much for them to move, but instead of saying 'no we can't do that' they went and did it. It was left in the middle of my tiled floored room, upside down. My furniture was all chipped and broken, the walls of my new house were scraped and chipped from them moving the furniture up the stairs, and are still a mess. I bought a brand new red hand truck from Grainger that cost $500, that one and another less expensive hand truck were both taken by them. There are several other items including my Oculus Quest 2 that are just gone forever and I have no recourse on it. All together the damage done and items stolen or lost totaled many many thousands of dollars. The price I paid for their services totaled around $8,000. This whole mess cost FIVE FIGURES in payment and damages. I had to file a homeowners insurance claim and a police report for the stolen items. They came back and Jerry rigged my bed frame back together, so me and my pregnant girlfriend aren't sleeping on the floor anymore. They told me to give them my cracked SCHOOL laptop so they could fix it. It took 3 weeks to come back to me. I spoke with Jeff who offered me $150 for my $4,000 safe they destroyed, offered to get a painter to come fix my walls, and all of these things have not been done yet. It's been a month and a half and my messages are met with silence now. The last time I talked to one of them they called me to see if I could amend my survey I left for them, and to see if "I would recommend them to others if they got this sorted out". I told them I'd amend my survey if they got my stuff fixed and my pocket reimbursed for all the damages. That was 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard a word since then.
Again, I'll come back and amend this once everything is taken care of and I'm made whole. But they have to actually follow through with their promises in order for that to happen. Hopefully they won't remain...
