Horrible experience after frequenting here multiple times a week. Rude and non-caring staff for my hearing impaired wife. I called and ordered two sandwiches at 11:40am. We were told there were two orders ahead of us and that it would be 20 to 25 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes, my wife drove there and shopped a little…picked up a couple items and paid for the sandwiches that weren’t ready. She waited an additional 20 minutes without saying a word and asked and was told she was next up. She waited another 10 or 15 minutes and asked, and they said she was next up and they had already given at least six other people who had ordered through their kiosk at the store their orders. No one apologized or seemed to be bothered to make sure she’d get her order, so she asked for a refund. Again, no apologies and they stalled for about 10 or 15 minutes. Finally my wife left in tears. I called and spoke with the manager and she was extremely offputting and rude. She wouldn’t let me get a word in edgewise and just said this is not fast food and that we were told there would be a half hour wait. Although close to being true, I simply tried to explain that we had waited for over an hour, and no one seemed to care or provide us with any assurances that the order would be taken care of. Then, when our refund was asked for, her staff got very defensive. At that point, she raised her voice and then got very defensive with me and said she doesn’t know why we’re upset and they weren’t rude to my wife. When I said well, she simply just needed an apology; she said “we have nothing to apologize for”. I said even with my wife crying right now, not to mention over an hour wait, and with the fact that we paid and are still out the money without receiving any service?. She said that’s correct, no apology from her. “We have nothing to apologize for.” I asked for her supervisor and she hung up on me. I’ve been in customer service and have family in food service and I have never heard of such a thing as this happening. We are about the most patient people I know and we never complain even with the worst service. Honestly I believe this is my first time posting a negative review. Great if you like paying for overpriced baked goods, cheap gifts and average food. This place is an absolute JOKE. All pies/bakery items come FROZEN from bulk grocers all they do to call the pies “homemade” is add their apple cider jelly as a glaze. You could get the same effect by buying a jar and buying a frozen pie from the grocery store for a fraction of the cost. Sorry but $16 for a frozen pie is ridiculous. I have seen the same cold case pastries in Martins for HALF the price. Don’t get me started on the giftables… it’s bought in bulk for super cheap, which is normal for gift shops. What’s not normal is an average FIFTY percent mark up on those items! INSANE!! Don’t trust all of the produce either unless it has the Grown by Whitacre Family Farms sign it is shipped in. Again same quality as a local grocery store (exact same produce brands) just faked to look local and fresh. Even the jarred items (which they are known for) are a sham. Most of the jarred goods are again bought in bulk and then just packaged at the cannery up the hill then passed off at the market as a “family tradition”. A family tradition of swindling their customers. If you’re a tourist passing through and you want waste your money sure but if your local and you support this nonsense, for shame. This used to be my favorite place to stop during my drive between Virginia and Pennsylvania. The market and the baked goods are great and the folks who work on the market side are generally very friendly! The cashier on the restaurant and convenience store side is friendly too, but the last few times I stopped, the ladies making sandwiches and meals behind the counter were extremely rude to customers. The man in front of me politely asked what the side and dessert were in the combo meal since it wasn’t specified on the menu. One of the women rudely replied “I don’t know. I haven’t looked,” with a nasty tone to her voice, rather than simply checking to see what they were. Perhaps the man was asking because he has a food allergy, but these women couldn’t be bothered.
