I had an emergency today fighting with the mower blades I was changing. I lost. The staff at Winnie Riceland were fantastic. From front desk, to Nurse, to Nurse Practioner, and back to bandage Nurse! Fast, courteous, and great personalities. We live in Crystal Beach and nice to know we have them 45 minutes away if ever needed again.

It is with sincere appreciation that my wife, Heather and I are sending this message to the Riceland Corporate Office as well as the medical staff of Riceland Medical Center in Winnie. On Sunday, September 11, 2022, my father, Phillip Feldman was admitted into the facility through the Emergency Lobby. From the moment we entered the building, we were met with exceptional customer service. My father was a bit agitated as he was not feeling well due to a fall, and bladder infection, but everyone that met with us exceeded every expectation.

I do not recall the Doctor’s name that was there at the facility that afternoon, but he was clear, precise and explained in detail to my father the processes that were going to take place. Another member of the staff, Katelyn (not sure of spelling), was extremely patient with my father when his sandwich wasn’t quite what he had expected - which is normal for him and his picky eating habits. She ensured that he was as comfortable as possible until he was able to be moved into a room with everything needed and above. Crystal also quickly took care of getting blood work and other tests run.

Upon getting my father settled, Danny Thompson, PA, met with us via face time and was just what we needed to make my dad feel at ease. His military background and direct approach definitely helped.

We know that feedback is important - especially positive feedback. I do not have names of all of the staff that were instrumental in making my dad’s stay a great experience, but here are a few that we made sure to thank in person and hope you do as well for their professionalism and passion to do a great job :

Mary RN and Salina - They had quite the challenge the first full day with my dad, as he was agitated and confused as to what was going on. My wife was there and watched as they deescalated the situation and made him more comfortable as well as minimized his fall risk.

Brianna, Erin - Night Nurses - prompt in returning calls and providing us with information and updates as needed.

Chris - The most instrumental person of my father’s stay. We saw Chris there each time we visited. My father said Chris took the time to bathe him, shave him, cut his hair and made him feel so much better as he had missed his hair appt due to his fall. This routine process that one may feel is required as part of the job, is what changed my father’s attitude. He was upbeat, looked better, felt better and in such a great mood, we were able to call his sister and niece. Chris may think this is just part of his job….but again..it changed the trajectory of my dad's mood.

The most important feedback is from my father, himself, who is extremely opinionated - good and bad. His exact words the day before he was transferred to the Arboretum were “I’m kind of let down to leave here ya know?” This statement for us is gold. JOB WELL DONE!

When the stress was high and we were worried about the health of our dad, the Riceland team pulled together and made us feel at ease. We are forever grateful for the professionalism of your staff and facility and will tell others about our...

The nurse staff is fine, the doctor that saw my daughter was a real piece of work. Subtle judgement on a diagnosis he knows nothing about. He insulted us multiple times saying "I get young people and new parents in here all the time claiming xyz without a real diagnosis." I have 6 kids, my oldest is 16, I am neither a new mom nor a young mom but even if I was, I don't need to know your judgements of me or trying to stereotype. He starts the appointment asking who the doctor was that diagnosed her and I cant recall his name but gives me a snarky comment "your husband doesn't talk to you about the appointments?" .... You think I can remember all those names? Their FATHER takes them to their appointments because I am home with the rest of the kids and the baby. When I contact my husband to produce the name and offer the contact info, this guy doesn't want the info at all. Sleep apnea causes mouth breathing which causes drying of the teeth which causes severe cavities, on top of an incident where she fell on concrete and broke her upper teeth... I've been trying to get my 4 year old daughter seen by a special needs dentist for 3 YEARS and he has the nerve to ask if she even brushes her teeth. You missed the mark in your line of work, sir. Convenient to my location or not, I won't be coming back here. Which is just as well because as I said, my kids are farm kids, they are never sick and darn sure don't need...

Worst place ever! Don't bring you kids here for pediatric check ups or sick visit. There isn't actually a pediatric doctor there right now, and the one that's playing pediatric doctor seems to not know what she's doing. On top of that I went here for a sinus infection, got given a covid test. Well lets just say don't expect the results the day they'll tell that it will be in. Because yes they'll be in, but they take about a week or two before they ever get it in the system and give you the run around about them. Just a bad experience, I guess. Maybe you'll have better luck. Good luck to all...
