I dropped in at the Yellow Rose Meat Market awhile back passing through Winnie, Tx. I had seen their commercials on TV and have been looking for a good place to buy quality steaks and other cuts. When I walked in I was expecting display cases with all cuts like my former market had. There wasn't much of a display case there and what was there wasn't a whole lot to choose from. I was looking to buy several ribeyes, some T-bones, or Porterhouse's and some other things. They advertise Hoghead cheese that they make there also and I was wanting to try that too. I found the display case only had at the time one really decent looking Ribeye and not a lot else. They had lockers all around the entrance area with labels to find something you might be looking for. They advertise having beef, pork, chicken, rabbit, and Alligator. They might have but I wasn't going to search for it!! There was a lady waiting on a customer at the register and I guess they were catching up as the whole time I was there they were talking and didn't acknowledge me or ask if she could help me with something. There were two other lady's there that looked like they were busy and were working on other stuff. One of them finally broke loose long enough to ask if I needed help! Yes I did!!! She was very nice and helpful thank goodness! By this time I was about ready to leave. So I told her I would take the best looking Ribeye in the display case and asked her about the Hoghead cheese and she pointed me to one of the lockers by the front door. I picked out a couple of pounds of the Hoghead cheese and went to the checkout counter. I paid for what I had got and left. I don't know if that was an off day or what, but if your at the register you could at least welcome someone in and either ask them for help or tell them you'll be right with them. She was still talking when I exited the building!!! On another note, the steak was really good and the Hoghead cheese was pretty darn good! But I doubt if I'll go back! I'll keep looking...
Read moreAs a family with 7 kids, we have to keep budget a top priority, but quality and health is the next highest priority. We have just purchased meats from big stores like Sam's club or HEB. But I got sick of the shrinkage and fat loss from those meat packages (even the leanest). I did a price comparison of the cheapest meat I could find and the loss was half the size. This means I would have to double the cost just to get the original amount of meat. If I buy from yellow rose, I have no loss at all. So when I count the price of what's supposed to be budget meat, I am actually LOSING meat and spending more! Plus let's be honest, the meat sucks. Per pound, it's cheaper to go to yellow rose. We have eaten basic products like ground beef, and more fun products like bison (buffalo). The taste is great! Their skillet sausage is my favorite. And their pork rinds are the best I've ever had. It saves me gas from driving all the way out of town and the annoyance and time loss of big stores as well. Yellow rose was a clear winner. Surprising for a big family. The best part of it all was getting to know the owner and ironically seeing him at my church and book club. He's now a great...
Read moreTerrible customer service!! I get a lot of deer meat processed every year. A good friend of mine convinced me to not go to my usual place and give Yellow Rose a try so I decided to get 1 deer processed. I received a call on Saturday 12/24 from Tanner letting me know my deer meat was ready to be picked up. I was out of town and wasn’t able to pick up until Tuesday 12/27. When I showed up Tuesday I was told that it was not ready and my sausage was still in the smoker. I asked when to come back and they told me tomorrow. So I showed up on Wednesday expecting to pick my deer up and once again it was still not ready. I was told everything was complete except the summer sausage. Once again I asked when my deer would be complete and again they said tomorrow. Thursday I decided to call before driving over and good thing I did because again my deer was not ready. This continued on until Saturday 12/31. I was finally able to pick my deer meat up exactly 1 week after I was told it was ready. I have had a terrible first experience here. They seem to be very unorganized. Only reason I gave a 2 star rating instead of 1 is because so far everything I have tried has...
