I gave the course a second chance after being unimpressed the one other time I played here last year. As of the date of this review, this course (4.5 stars) rates higher than Reynolds Park Golf Course (4.1 stars) or Meadowlands (4.4 stars). That should not be the case; it's not close. While a person could argue that conditions at Reynolds Park aren't great on 2 or 3 greens, they couldn't do that while using Wilshire as an example of good conditions. Prices at Wilshire and Reynolds Park are similar.
I gave the course 2 stars mainly because, at least, it's a full length (though shortish) course vs Heather Hills, which has similar to worse conditions and is an executive course. Heather Hills would get 1 star and this course is marginally better. Conditions are poor, on the back 9 especially, at Wilshire. Number 11 fairway is a disaster. That assessment has nothing to do with the fact that it is a challenging hole (it is), the conditions are simply hot trash. Not only that, there is a sewage smell back in that part of the course. I played during the middle of the summer, so temperature-caused inversion of the pond shouldn't be the reason for the smell. Greens and fairways in general are passable, but not great.
Most of the positive reviews of the course address how friendly the staff is. I won't disagree with that. If that is a major criterion for you, play away. However, I've never had problems with the friendliness of staff at any other local courses, so I can't particularly rate this one higher than the others. The grill did seem good at this course. A playing partner had a...

The course? Beautiful.
Fairways smoother than my pickup lines (which isnât saying much).
Greens that are fast enough to make you question everything you thought you knew about putting.
Bunkers? Deep enough to start charging rent if you end up in them too much. (Ask me how I know.)
The vibe? Chill but competitive â like everyoneâs secretly hoping you shank your drive so they can feel better about their own day.
Staff? Top-notch. Friendly, helpful, and somehow didnât laugh when I asked if they had a âlost ball punch card.â
The clubhouse? Perfect mix of ârespectableâ and âyeah, weâve seen some things.â Cold drinks. Good food. Enough TVs to keep you updated on sports while you pretend your triple bogey didnât happen.
Wilshire Golf Club is that rare place where:
You can show up serious or just show up for fun.
You can play a great round or invent entirely new curse words on Hole 12.
And no matter how bad it gets, you still feel like you should come back next weekend and try again.
Highly recommend. Bring your clubs, bring your optimism, and maybe bring an extra dozen balls â...
Read moreI think this course has so much potential and I love the layout. I honestly haven't played here in probably over a year due to the fact that the fairways weren't very well taken care of. it just seems like your playing on dirt the whole time. Also last time I went, I was a solo playing on a not very busy day. The guy at the counter seemed to cop an attitude when he found out I was a solo. I asked him if that was an issue, he said and I quote "i lose money when it's a solo." That's another reason why I haven't played there in over a year. I play on better maintained courses (in clemmons and Davie County); who have NEVER made me feel like i was a burden...
