Very sad that more people don’t leave the overcrowded Mt Desert Isle portion of Acadia, and spend at least a 1/2 day here. I didn’t - until one day the traffic just drove me away. And happy that it did. No it doesn’t have the spectacular view of Cadillac Mountain, but it is pretty. And nature filled. And lots of hidden coves and “beaches” where you can enjoy Maine at its’ finest. Restaurants here and there and local artisans, too. If you are older, there are hikes that are less challenging. If you are on a budget, there are places and restaurants far less expensive - and often more unique. Just try it - like us, you will make a part of your regular...

We drove from Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island to Schoodic peninsula in about 45 minutes on April 19th 2024. There is a one way loop road that we could drive slowly and pull off where we could get out and take pictures. There were many different views of the rocky shoreline and the deep blue water. We were fortunate to see about 20 seals sunning on a small island. We stopped for our picnic lunch at one of the designated spots that had several picnic tables. Because we visited in the off season the bathrooms weren't open yet. We would still visit Acadia National Park in the off season ( late April ) to avoid the crowds and experience nature's...
