I like this place. They've been around for a very long time. They have a very large variety of meats, cheese, produce (less variety, but very convenient), snacks, and a bunch of frozen foods like chicken fingers, onion rings, etc.
The business is clean. Staff are generally friendly and helpful.
There can be questions of meat quality. McAuliff Meats generally doesn't sell Prime grade meat. They focus on budget friendly grades more often than not which is totally okay as long as you know what you are getting. For beef, pay attention to grading. If you don't see choice or prime, it may be select. Just look before you buy it that's something you're interested in. They do custom cut whole pieces of meat for you though, which is really nice.
For other meats, I've had some mixed results, especially with chicken wings. I've bought some that were broken into tiny pieces. Like, the bones were cracked and the drum would be half destroyed. So, now I visually inspect before deciding to buy. Just look carefully is all. I bought some pork ribs that come several to a pack, and upon opening them, they weren't the best, they had shiners (the meat cut off to the bone). And I've bought great ribs there too.
They also oftentimes have several good sale items! And they have lots of sausage, jerky, hunter sticks, deli meats and cheese, etc.
Overall, it's a great, clean store, with nice employees. Just be cognizant of what you're buying if you're specifically looking for top grade meat. It's usually very busy on the weekend, so be prepared for that! Bring a big, big cooler if you're visiting from a long way, you'll...
Read moreI come here often and the people are always really great but I had a really unfortunate experience that kind of ruined my Christmas dinner.
I’ve never purchased a prime rib roast here before but on the 24th, I did. I asked for Prime (not choice) and I got, well I don’t know what I got but I paid $85 for a 5.7 lb of what seemed like NY Strip consistency.
They netted it and it looked ok from the outside but after cooking it to a perfect 145 degrees (after resting) and cut into it, it was no prime rib. No marbling in the roast but some fat on the outside. My family and I were really disappointed.
I suggest if anyone buys a roast here, please look carefully. Slapping a usda prime sticker...
Read moreI have been going to Mc Auliffe's for years, since they were just a small building owned by a friendly, hard- working couple, serving a handful of hunters. 😊 Since then there have been many, many, building additions, a plethora of delicious products to add to the shelves, a brand new building to grow into, countless dollars saved by customers, and smiles from all who have shopped here and have gotten to experience the Mc Auliffe's crew of employees and especially the owners, Patricia and Patrick, who make everyone feel as if they are one of the family. And if that doesn't bring a smile to your face, the extra in your pocket from all the money you've saved...
