Produce stand - very limited selection, high prices, and kooky vaccine-denier cashier. I stopped by here a couple weeks ago because our go-to produce shop Jim & Ralph's in Collegeville has been eminent-domained out of their location for a new traffic junction project, and they have no plans to reopen elsewhere. Not wanting to make the roughly half hour one way trip to Produce Junction in Phoenixville, I started looking at other local possibilities, leading me to pay a visit to O&F's produce stand on Skippack Pike. It will be a one-time visit, unfortunately, due to the following:
Produce selection is limited. I want to buy fresh and local, but I also don't want to plan on hitting several spots per week to round out what we eat.
Price is on the high end, and you'll pay that high end even if the only stock left for a particular veggie has been well-abused by the summer sun as it sat in the stand.
The lady who was running the cash register the day I stopped by was an absolute cuckoo bird. Started kindly enough, talking about how she very much believed in a "natural" lifestyle, and how she could tell I did too, based on what I was buying. Quickly devolved into telling me how the authorities would have to put her in jail before she took a Covid vaccine, and then delusionally patted herself on the back for her ignorance, claiming that "I turned out to be right, look at all the issues that the vaccine caused", except that there's no evidence that the Covid vaccines had more adverse reactions than any other vaccine we've been using for the past 60 years, and they saved many of thousands of lives. The unsolicited conspiracy delusion would have been enough to never visit again, but the other shortcomings of this place really cement...
Read more40%+ moisture in “seasoned” firewood
I ordered a cord of “seasoned” oak firewood for my wood stove. Also paid for them to deliver and stack it. I tried using it in my stove and it was not burning right. I tested a number of pieces with a moisture meter and they were showing anywhere between 25% and 45% moisture, mostly around 40%. Split some of it and the inside was even worse, just complete wet. This wood is not seasoned. Seasoned means 15-20% moisture contents in the entire piece of wood. Now I can’t burn this wood until a year from now and have to buy more wood. This is a serious fire hazard. Burning wood with this high moisture contents can cause chimney fires. It’s very irresponsible and false. I cut down some walnut 4 months ago and it was drier than this wood, so I’d guess it was cut and split maybe a month or two ago. Horrible...
