We had an amazing trip to Sunrise River Farm. It was our first year but certainly not our last! Our kids absolutely loved the animals and being able to pet and watch them enjoy some apples. The idea that they are a smaller farm allowed our kids to really enjoy this experience without being overwhelmed by a crowd or waiting in line constantly.
We enjoyed some delicious apple treats and food while the kids got to play on the swing sets, with the large yard games and riding their various bikes. Bonus for the $1 train rides! It was an easy environment to let the kids play in the outdoors while the parents got a slice of caramel apple heaven.
When we finally got to the pick your own apples (after being there for nearly 2 hours entertained by everything else), there were plenty to choose from and the kids loved trying to find the ones on the very top!
To end our trip, we of course made one more round through the store to stock up on some jam and honey.
We will certainly be back again next year and look forward to making this a...
Read moreThey have a bunch of things for small children to do, which is great because we have a 2 year old. There were only a few animals and the petting zoo was tiny. We didn’t realize you were supposed to pay for the little train ride, which is $1 per ride. Not too bad, but also annoying to have to keep going in & out to pay.
However, the apples are mediocre and not very tasty. I’ve never been to an orchard where I spit out apples, except for this one. Not many were good to eat and the lanes were full of fallen apples— like entire trees were bare. They also charge $16 for a half peck of apples. Way too expensive and the apples are tiny. You’re better off just buying some from the store if you want good ones.
One bad thing is the bees/wasps are HORRIBLE! We got stung twice, once in the orchard and once by our car as we were leaving. I’ve never seen so many bees/wasps in one area....
Read moreI recently spent a day at Sunrise River Farm. It was my kids first experience at an apple orchard and it was the best thing I could have helped for. The family operating the farm are all very kind and helpful. We had a hundred questions about apple production and they took time to thoughtfully answer every question. They all seem to truly enjoy offering this fun family attraction to the community. There was also a great lunch that started with soup, followed by an apple brat and finishing the meal with an apple danish. Finally if you have time to say hello to the pig, pony and duck you won’t be disappointed. They have the largest duck I have EVER laid eyes on! If I could give more than 5...
