Our experience with gain has been heartbreaking and frustrating. We adopted a puppy who was claimed to be dewormed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and around 13 week old. Within 24 hours, he was visibly infested with wormsâclear evidence that he had not been properly dewormed. Ten days later, he tested positive for parvovirus. Our vet confirmed that parvo takes 10â14 days to show symptoms, meaning he was already infected when we brought him home. On top of that, we found out he wasnât fully vaccinated, despite the shelterâs claims. To make matters worse, weâve now been told that our puppy is younger than the age the shelter statedâsomething that drastically affects his care and medical needs. Weâve spent over $500 on emergency treatment and had to watch our puppy suffer due to what we believe is the shelterâs negligence and lack of transparency. I learned that due to the severity of the injury, I needed to rehabilitate the dog because it might not make it in the shelter.
