Our experience with gain has been heartbreaking and frustrating. We adopted a puppy who was claimed to be dewormed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and around 13 week old. Within 24 hours, he was visibly infested with worms—clear evidence that he had not been properly dewormed. Ten days later, he tested positive for parvovirus. Our vet confirmed that parvo takes 10–14 days to show symptoms, meaning he was already infected when we brought him home. On top of that, we found out he wasn’t fully vaccinated, despite the shelter’s claims. To make matters worse, we’ve now been told that our puppy is younger than the age the shelter stated—something that drastically affects his care and medical needs. We’ve spent over $500 on emergency treatment and had to watch our puppy suffer due to what we believe is the shelter’s negligence and lack of transparency. I appreciate the brutal honesty of the staff. I found an injured puppy that I was attempting to drop off. I learned that due to the severity of the injury, I needed to rehabilitate the dog because it might not make it in the shelter. The dog is now adopted by a veterinarian and receiving the care it needed. If they weren't so honest and straightforward, the puppy's life may have had a completely different outcome. Great organization the island desperately needs. They care for their animals whole heartedly and are on a constant mission for the animals for a forever home. They're always motivated to help both with adoption and fostering. The adoption fee INCLUDES microchip and spay/ neuter to be a responsible pet owner.
