The Shops at Cape Neddick — Local services in York

The Shoppes at Cape Neddick is my first stop when searching for a gift or something special for my home. The ladies, each with a separate shoppe under one roof, are terrific. One can find distinctive and carefully selected pottery, woodwork, artwork, custom furniture, antiques, hand-knitted items, toys, costal items, etc. for the home or for one's business. Jeanne, the owner, is happy to help you find anything you need even if that involves a deeper search. In addition to being a great place to find a variety of wonderful items, it is a relaxing place to visit. The store is airy, colorful, vibrant, and fragrant. It has the feel of a museum with so many different things catching your eye and pulling you away from something else of great interest. Overpriced compared to other local shops. One shop owner came across as pushy and forceful, using questionable sales tactics that left me really uncomfortable — definitely not the kind of shopping experience I’d recommend, especially with so many Other great long-time local shops to choose from.

Read through the non-owner reviews here and you’ll see a clear pattern: many point out how overpriced this place is. What stood out to me was how the owner responds by “teaching lessons” instead of taking feedback seriously. If multiple customers are saying the same thing, maybe listen — customers don’t need to be “educated” on shopping local when they’re already in your store supporting local.

Beautiful oasis in the heart of York. Cant believe I never shopped here before. The shops are a cooperative owned and ran by 12 women. There is a variety of both homemade and imported items. Beautiful for every taste and season. There is also a quilt store on the lower floor. You can browse to your heart's delight. The owners are friendly and knowledgable about their crafts.
