A small but disorderly airport. The only positive thing is the staff are polite, although not particularly knowledgeable. You can only be dropped off about 250 metres from the departure hall. There are 2 security checks, before entering the terminal, and before the boarding gates. When I arrived all the check-in counters were devoted to the Istanbul flight. I was wondering whether I was in the wrong terminal. Domestic flights open for check-in only 1 hour before departure. But at that time what opened was a later flight, not my flight. The entry to the domestic hall has exactly the same signs as the international hall. The online generated boarding pass cannot be accepted at the security check because they need to stamp on something physical. Wifi cannot connect without a local number. When connected it is on and off. This airport can improve tremendously by having the right signs and information. An information desk would be very useful.

When I was flying out from Bukhara to Istanbul everything went smooth and the staff was friendly. Expect that everything is checked and the baggage allowance rules are followed by the book. Don't bring oversized bags! The check-in is necessary as they do not accept the online boarding pass unless you print it out, which even then is not guaranteed and you may have to wait in the line. After passing the extended passport control, on the 2nd floor, you will be at the gate where you can have a coffee and samsa. There is a tiny Duty Free shop selling mostly alcohol.
As written by other travelers the experience may differ during the winter season.

Nonetheless, the walkable distance from the city center remains a key positive aspect, offering a straightforward travel experience for those flying in and...
