This place was such a disappointment. There are multiple entrances all with different prices. Most tourists go to the one with the âBlue Lagoonâ sign since that's the name it's marketed under. Of course it's also the most expensive. Having learned about this from my hotel, I went to the smaller entrance just past the sign and paid 500vt. Sadly it was in terrible shape with trash everywhere and I decided to leave although If already paid to get in.
I thought perhaps the area marked with the âblue lagoonâ sign could be nicer being that it was more popular and priced higher. When I got to the "Blue Lagoon" entrance I asked the woman if I could take a quick look before paying again and explained my disappointment with the other area. She agreed and seemed really understanding so I went in. Unfortunately, this side was no better than the first. It was equally trashy and many of the bridges and rope ties were broken and unusable. They should have at least been roped off if not removed/repaired to prevent an accident.
When I returned to let her know I wouldnât stay, her attitude changed and she told me I had to pay 1000vt just for looking. I told her that wasnât what she said and that I was barely inside for two minutes, but she raised her voice at me and started laughing saying things along the lines of âyou tourists think you can just come and just do whatever you want for freeâ. I was so stunned I didn't even know what to say so I just gave her the money and asked for a receipt, but of course she refused. I don't know what makes them think it is sustainable to treat customers like this but unfortunately it is not the only place in Vanuatu that has followed the trend of overcharging and under appreciating the customers that support them as they become...
Read moreThis place was absolutely BEAUTIFUL and we really enjoyed the natural surroundings! đș The only things that put us off were:
The groundsman kept staring at us. We tried to smile and politely let him know it made us uncomfortable, but he continued, which made it hard to relax. The restrooms really need more attention. They hadnât been cleaned in a while and unfortunately had a strong smell of urine. Thereâs no EFTPOS machine. Not a huge issue, but itâs helpful for visitors to know ahead of time so they can bring cash. We also learned (from a local boy) that the lagoon is managed by different owners on each side, which means you canât swim across or use the swings without paying again. This wasnât explained at the entrance, and there were no signs, so it would be great if this could be communicated more clearly for visitors. They charged us 1,500VT. I just learned someone 3 weeks ago paid only...
Read moreHere is your owner of the south side of Blue Lagoon, Karl, who at 45 years of age, provides the entertainment and assistance to his audience! Working almost 7 days a week, heâll make sure you get the best swing possible.
Make sure to bring 1500VT for entry.
The water is connected with the ocean as you swim down the lagoon more (refer to Google Maps). The further you head to the ocean, the clarity begins to mix in with the fresh water within the lagoon. Beware that there is a small current that flows towards the ocean.
Karl was so helpful in waving down a bus for us when all of the buses left and decided to keep my wife and I company; this is not something I would receive back in Australia.
TLDR: Worth the visit. Bluest water Iâve ever seen. Be sure to ask for Karl who is a legend. 1500VT entry cost (2022 updated cost). Be careful of a small-flow current towards the end...
