Thác Tạt Nàng — Local services in Sơn La Province

I found this waterfall to be really scenic with a few paths to explore, and i spent about +30 minutes viewing and exploring the site. There's the main large cascading waterfall, then several smaller ones to the right flowing down the rock face (easily seen from the remaining path, but a bit trickier to reach them up close as the path and bamboo bridge have deteriorated and/or washed away). Below these are smaller waterfalls with a few pools that could be swum in but too cold at the moment (unsure how much water would be in these during the hotter months). On two wheeled vehicles, you can reach right up to the falls (near, what looks to be a restaurant/convention building) but cars have to park just off the road (about 100 metres walk from there). After reading some recent negative reviews (that strangely neglected to post any photos of the rubbish or bown/foamy water???) I found the area to be surprisingly quite clean and only a few sections had a build up of rubbish - further away from the main waterfall. Some of the bamboo bridges have either deteriorated or have been washed away, but those remaining were accessible (though they could do with some rejuvenation)...I managed to cross these while carrying my dog (so they can't be that bad). There is an entrance fee, but upon my visit nobody was there to take the fee (though I was quite willing to pay the token amount of 10,000 dong...or 20,000 dong, I'm not quite sure exactly but a pittance in any case). To reach the waterfall from Mai Chau, Google Maps will take two wheeled vehicles through the mountain roads (all concrete/sealed) and via some local villages (entry off the highway is just past the PV Oil petrol station located on your left). If you want a real adventure, and are a competent and confident rider, then go from Mai Chau via Suoi Lung (#6 Cu, which is a scenic road that the locals use to access the wild bamboo forests and is only 80% sealed). Here, you will find about 5-10km of unsealed rocky/gravel and muddy sections that descend through the bamboo logging sections. Keep going past the "floating cafe" to get on this road. (Note: I wouldn't try to come back this way from the waterfall, as you will have to ascend large sections of the track boasting 10%-15% gradients that are the rocky, gravel, muddy parts....essentially you'll be going against gravity.) There is a section at the beginning of this road which is blocked (due to new cement resurfacing) and you need to take a small path to avoid it....the locals will guide you if you can't find it. The adventure of taking the logging route to the waterfalls was an added bonus and made the journey more enjoyable...but the plain route is good too, as I came back to Mai Chau this way (pretty much...

Ở đây tầm 30 phút chụp vài tấm ảnh rồi đi về, khá vắng vẻ. Nhưng cảnh thì rất đẹp Các hạng mục xung quanh thác đã bị bỏ hoang lâu ngày nên đã xuống cấp vào mục nát. Không có dịch vụ gì cả, nên mang theo nước uống và đồ ăn. Thác Tạt Nàng nằm ở bản Hua Tạt, xã Vân Hồ, huyện Vân Hồ Thác cao khoảng 70m, nước đổ mạnh từ khe núi xuống tạo thành lớp sương mù mát lạnh quanh năm. Phong cảnh rất tự nhiên, ít khai thác thương mại, bao quanh là rừng xanh và núi đá. Mùa nước lớn, thác chảy trắng xóa nhìn rất hùng vĩ.

Tên “Tạt Nàng” theo tiếng Thái nghĩa là “nước đổ của nàng tiên”, gắn với truyền thuyết nàng tiên xuống tắm nơi đây. Từ Mộc Châu → quốc lộ 6 → xã Vân Hồ → bản Hua Tạt (cách QL6 khoảng 1 km).

Đường khá dễ đi, có thể đi xe máy hoặc ô tô nhỏ, nhưng đoạn vào bản hơi hẹp.

Có thể chạy xe máy thẳng tới chân thác Tháng 5 – tháng 9: mùa nước nhiều, thác đẹp nhất.

Tháng 10 – tháng 3: nước ít hơn nhưng dễ đi, trời mát, phù hợp chụp ảnh hoặc picnic.

Chụp ảnh check-in, tắm suối, leo lên các tầng thấp (các tầng cao không khuyến khích vì dốc trơn). Gần thác có bản Hua Tạt – nổi tiếng với nhà sàn người Mông & người Thái, có thể ghé trải nghiệm văn hóa, ăn đặc sản (xôi ngũ sắc, cá suối nướng, măng chua…). Chưa có khu du lịch lớn, dịch vụ vẫn do dân bản tự quản nên giữ được nét hoang...

Gorgeous! Actual waterfall, really larger than I expected. Also has spots if you would like to set up a small tent - or chill in their lookout center right by the fall. They also have small side spots to enjoy the waterfall. Can get a lil wet and soggy near the fall...
