An amazing site. It has come about in just the last 20 years or so. After the war many people who fought on the losing side decided to flee Vietnam and became known as the boat people. Those who survived at sea and ultimately made it somewhere like California then sent money back to relatives who probably were unable to work because work was banned for south Vietnamese people who had supported that government. Most Vietnamese follow the religion of Cao Dai which is the worshipping of their ancestors. These people were so thankful to those sending them money they started building bigger and bigger shrines as a sign of their gratitude. The result, the city of ghosts, mile upon mile of mausoleums. Read moreI recently drove through this cemetery on the way from Huế to Đà Nẵng. Until then, I had no idea that this place existed which I think added to the surprise of finding this incredible place. Having spoken with countless people who have driven the famous Hải Vân pass nearby, I'm lost for words as to how nobody has ever mentioned this place.... maybe they all took the other road which is probably a lot quicker. But this cemetery completely blew my mind and it was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen in my life. The scale of this place and the intricate designs are just something else. Read morePictures can’t do this place justice, it’s a magnificent and impressive web of independent structure. It is much grander when you can actually visit and explore this place in person.
My personal favorite thing to do is to explore this place at night. I swear this place get spooky for no reason at night, ever times I went here a mysterious sounding appear, it does not sound like anything that came from an animals or Human.
Overall, quite a magnificent place although it is getting crowded making it really difficult to run away from ghosts. I strongly recommend to wear sandal or open-toes shoes without socks because the ground is mostly sand and it gets into your insole even...
