We came across Muzanga Foundation by prior having learned about them from YouTube videos. We fell in love with this wonderful project created by the 2 Dutch ladies founders, Emma & Sabine, who, from a wild abandoned plot, created this lovely and welcoming space, aiming to accommodate overlanders and self-driving tourists who wish to experience a comfortable, safe and connected-to-local community stopover. Emma and Sabine immediately conquered us by their charme and their energy. The area has become an amazingly beautiful space around a majestic baobab that you can’t miss from the main Mfuwe road. It consists of 3 camp site spots, a fully equipped safari tent, an open-air lounge / bar, a brand new built ablution block. Not to mention their vegetable yards which provides fresh seasonal food. Tibwa, the adorable lady employed from the local communities as Project Manager, coordinates all operations with extreme kindness, professionalism and her contagious smiling attitude. Felix, the Chef, prepares delicious dishes. The Foundation exclusively employs from the local communities to maintain this little and peaceful paradise. We fully recommend a stay at Muzanga to individual travellers who want to spend one or more nights in a genuine, fully equipped and tidy accommodation, managed and run by a dedicated, hard working and naturally committed team, who will make your visit the most memorable and warm-hearted. Muzanga Foundation is the perfect base to not only go on safari in the South Luangwa National Park but also and most of all to appreciate a guided nearby village tour organised by Emma, Sabine and Tibwa, in order to learn more about Zambian rural life. Unforgettable! ♥️ Many thanks to all of you at Muzanga Foundation for the wonderful time spent together. We...

We really loved staying here and also doing the village tour! Great place to relax before or after your safari trip. Like the others we only planned on staying one night before our safari. However, after our safari trip we went back for another night and also did the village tour. Really nice to see the real Africa in a respectful and equal way. All the money goes back into the foundation and the village. So it is a nice and durable way of doing something for the locals! The foundation uses local researchers to gather what issues the locals want to tackle.

The massive baobob tree at the entrance is really amazing and in front of it is the bar and a nice seating area. Really nice to escape the sun in its shade or catch the sunset and sunrise with a drink. The campsites are really spacious with a personal drinking water tap and the ablutions are clean and new.

The foundation is run by two Dutch and a local women. Together with the staff they make the place! Had a lot of great talks and laughs, be sure to chat with the locals that work here. And be sure to have a few meals. The cook is young but really knows what he is doing. Really nice to have some flavours we had not seen in a few months of Africa. They are also helpfull with wathever you need. We could store our bicycles during our safari and they arranged that we could catch a ride to Chipata with a truck that gathers groceries for the nearby towns. Long story short: be sure...

After reading about the Muzanga Foundation on iOverlander, my wife and I decided to call in and have a look.

We were met at the gate by an ever smiling Zak, who warmly welcomed us.

He proudly showed us the camp sites, the ablution facilities and the "socialising area", i.e. bar, which is in the shade of one of the most majestic baobab trees I have ever seen!

Even though it was still early afternoon we decided not to continue the (only!) 25km to our planned destination but rather spend the night here!

Sitting in the welcome afternoon shade of the baobab tree, we listened to Emma and Sabine's fascinating story of their background, how they ended up here from the Netherlands and how they had shed much blood, sweat and tears building up their dream here in Zambia. They are all smiles now that they have made it this far 😁, but seem to have many more plans for the future 🤩

What an inspiration !!

If you're passing through this area (close to Mfuwe) be sure to pop in, have an ice cold drink, sample their menu (we had the very tasty vegetable pizza 😍) and spend a night or two. You won't regret it...and you'll be supporting a great initiative started by these two very gutsy...
