"Pilgrimage" to Dessau After Years of Escaping German 🔵🟡🔴
Finally crossed off one of my must-visit destinations ✨—the quaint German town of Dessau! Still remember those long chapters in my undergrad textbook Window of Culture 📚, detailing how Bauhaus emerged in the turbulent Weimar Republic, migrated from Weimar → Dessau → Berlin, and eventually scattered worldwide amid WWII’s chaos. The name "Bauhaus" itself flips the German "Hausbau" (house building)—a bold move, just like its pioneering vision 🚀: blending industrial standardization, everyday functionality, and artistic aesthetics in an era of rapid industrialization. Seeing photos of Gropius, Feininger, Klee, Mies van der Rohe and their students, you can almost feel their raw intellectual energy 💥. Sure, critiques of Bauhaus abound today, but revisiting its origins? Breaking stale norms back then took serious guts 💪. My Pilgrimage Route 🗺️ 🔵 Bauhaus Building 📍 Gropiusallee 38 Gropius’ 1926 icon 🏛️—workshops, dormitories, even a stage! ❗️The gift shop here is DANGEROUSLY GOOD 🛍️💸 (RIP my wallet). 🔴 Masters’ Houses 📍 *Ebertallee 58-71* These legendary homes 🏡, nestled in serene woods, made me jealous of the faculty’s work-life balance 🌳✨. 🟡 Bauhaus Museum Dessau 📍 *Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1* A massive "black box" 📦 packed with exhibits—from theater costumes 🎭 to furniture 🪑—so fascinating, yet so exhausting 😮💨. Dessau’s quiet charm 🌿 low-key made me wanna move there... Who knew? #OOTD #TravelInspo #Dessau #Bauhaus #Wanderlust #ArchitectureLover #DesignHistory #GermanTravel📸
