£5 Concert in London 🎹✨
Last night, I attended Vijay Iyer’s solo piano recital at Wigmore Hall—my first time in this intimate, acoustically stunning venue with its gorgeous dome ceiling. There’s even a whimsical "singing corridor" outside! For just £5 (thanks to the under-35 discount), it was an absolute steal. Londoners, don’t miss out on these hidden gems! The music? Like a soundtrack to an avant-garde installation art exhibit—sometimes percussive like colliding objects, sometimes whispery like rustling paper, or crystalline like glass marbles. It painted sonic landscapes: one moment, you’re watching waves crash from afar; the next, you’re inside the tide, swept into a swirling vortex of sound. 🌊🌀 First half: Modern textures with jazz-inflected melodies. Second half: Jazz-leaning pieces with a contemporary edge. Encore: Pure cinematic melancholy—a stormy, grey-blue seascape dissolving into post-tempest calm. Though I usually shy away from atonal modern music, Iyer’s playing was hypnotic. His layered phrasing felt like green shoots breaking through soil—repetitive motifs growing, stretching, pulling listeners into an upward spiral of emotion. 🌱🎶 📸 No photos allowed during performances, so all that remains are hazy echoes and fleeting impressions... For artists of all disciplines: Iyer’s work transcends "piano music"—it’s a wellspring of inspiration. Highly recommend! 📍 Wigmore Hall 36 Wigmore St, London W1U 2BP #Piano #Concert #LondonMusic #ClassicalMusic #Jazz #ModernMusic #ArtInspiration 🎼💫
