🇨🇦 Toronto | French Dining at Auberge du Prommier 🥐

Celebrating my birthday month with friends at this iconic Toronto French bistro 🥂 Located at 4150 Yonge St, North York, ON M2P 2C6, Auberge du Prommier is a classic spot that's been around for ages - time to see if it lives up to the hype!! 🅿️ Parking & Ambiance: Weekday lunch was surprisingly quiet - we parked in the underground garage where clear signs guided us to the restaurant entrance. No free parking though 😅 The garden-style patio looked inviting, but with so-so weather, we opted for indoor seating. 🥄 Appetizers: Foie Gras Vol-au-Vent 🦆 Classic French starter! The foie gras was perfectly creamy without any gaminess, served on a crispy pastry base with a delicious mushroom-cherry compote. Rich but not heavy - 10/10 would order again!! Soupe à l’Oignon et Truffes 🧅 Disappointing 😞 The truffle flavor was barely detectable, and the onion soup lacked that deep, caramelized flavor we love. The pastry lid didn't even melt properly into the soup - missed opportunity!! Salade du Terroir 🥬 Forgettable salad with basic greens and radishes. Nothing special, just... there. 🍖 Mains: Canard 🦆 The duck breast was decent - crispy skin with tender meat, served with maple-glazed waffles. The meat was slightly too firm (maybe too much breast meat?), but the flavors were good. Steak Frites 🥩 Ordered medium-rare 5oz filet mignon, but it came out more well-done than expected. The frites were good, but the steak needed more seasoning. Wouldn't order again when I can make better steaks at home!! Bœuf Bourguignon 🍷 The beef stew was comfortingly good - tender chunks in rich red wine sauce with potatoes and mushrooms. A solid choice if you love classic French comfort food. Saumon 🐟 The salmon was overcooked and dry, prepared in a steamed style with asparagus. The flavors were too subtle - could've used more seasoning or butter!! 🍰 Desserts: Crème Brûlée 🍮 Perfect execution! The caramelized sugar cracked beautifully, revealing an ultra-creamy custard beneath. Not overly sweet - just right!! Tartelette au Citron 🍋 The lemon tart had a lovely balance of tangy curd and buttery shortcrust, topped with whipped cream. Light and refreshing - a great way to end the meal!! Birthday Surprise 🎂 They surprised us with an extra dessert (can't remember the name) - it was delicious but not overly sweet, just how we like it!! 💡 Final Thoughts: Decent French dining experience, but nothing extraordinary. ✅ Must-tries: Foie gras and duck ✅ Desserts are worth it ❌ Steaks and onion soup need improvement #TorontoDining #FrenchCuisine #AubergeDuPrommier #BirthdayDinner #TorontoRestaurants #FineDining #FoodieAdventures #FrenchFoodie
