Arrowhead Campground | Thousand Islands Adventure Guide 🏕️🍁

We hit up Arrowhead Provincial Park, Murphys Point Provincial Park, and Thousand Islands National Park over the August long weekend. Sadly, the weather had other plans—non-stop rain meant fewer scenic shots than hoped for. 🌧️📷 📍 Arrowhead Provincial Park 🚗 230km north of Toronto, near Huntsville, this place was packed—especially with families from the GTA. It’s also close to Algonquin, making it a popular alternative. 🏞️ The campground is spacious, centered around a picturesque lake. While the hiking trails here don’t compete with Algonquin’s famous routes, Arrowhead shines in water activities: kayaking, swimming, and fishing. 🚣‍♂️🎣 Hiking Highlights 🌿 Stubb’s Falls Loop (3km) – Flat and easy, with a charming little waterfall under the bridge. 🌀 Big Bend Lookout – A U-shaped river bend… underwhelming. Skip unless you’re desperate for steps. 🍂 Fall Foliage Pro Tip: Arrowhead is a decent leaf-peeping spot, but Algonquin’s Booth’s Rock or Canisbay Campground (check my last year’s guide!) are far superior for autumn vibes. 🍁👀 📍 Murphys Point Provincial Park 🌧️ East of Toronto, this stop was mostly a rain-soaked snooze fest. Managed an hour of evening fishing (caught nothing), then called it a night. 🌊🎣💤 📍 Thousand Islands National Park 🗺️ 300km east of Toronto, this isn’t a traditional gated park—it’s a scattered collection of islands along the St. Lawrence River, straddling the US-Canada border. Must-Do Routes 🛣️ Thousand Islands Parkway – A 38km stretch from Gananoque to Butternut Bay, dotted with waterfront views. 🚤 Rockport Boat Tours – Choose from 1hr, 3hr, or island-hopping cruises. Only the 3hr tour shows the iconic Boldt Castle (US territory—visa required to disembark). ⚓🏰 Hiking Spot 🌲 Landon’s Bay – Short trails (under 2km) with a scenic overlook. $8 parking fee. ⚠️ Heads Up: Those dreamy aerial island photos? Not visible from the Canadian side—you’ll need the 3hr boat tour. Rain ruined our chance, but next time! ☔😤 🦝 PSA: Lock up your food—raccoons here are professional thieves, rain or shine. 🚫🛒 #Wanderlust #TorontoGetaways #ArrowheadProvincialPark #ThousandIslands #Hiking #Camping #OutdoorAdventures #TravelGuide
