My Spending Standards Have Collapsed in Vancouver...
Located near Burnaby’s Metrotown Crystal Mall, this Japanese izakaya has been on my radar for a while—authentic, affordable, and run by actual Japanese people. It’s a hotspot for local Japanese expats, and I’d tried going three times before, only to be turned away because it was always packed 🥲. So I gave up… until recently, when a friend casually mentioned it, and somehow, we snagged a reservation without even expecting to! 😃 Finally got to try it this time. We went all out—ordered a ton of food, added drinks, stuffed ourselves silly… and still only paid around $60+ per person. I knew it’d be cheap, but not thischeap 🤣. Hard to believe this is Vancouver The food wasn’t mind-blowing, but solid and satisfying. I’ll skip the "just okay" dishes and highlight the must-orders: 🥢 TAIRYOU ASSORTED SASHIMI – Only $28 for seven kinds of fish! Thick cuts, fresh, generous portions—insane value. We even ordered extra limited-time sashimi afterward, all great for the price. 🥢 NORI TEMPURA – Crispy fried seaweed, addictively snackable like chips~ 🥢 KARAAGE – Juicy fried chicken with a perfectly crispy coating. Served with spicy sauce + mayo—super appetizing. 🥢 YAKITORI – The cheese and wasabi mayo skewers were 🔥. Tender meat, and at just $7 for two skewers, a steal. Overall, the menu is huge, prices are fair, and the old-school Japanese decor gives off a lively, nostalgic vibe. Perfect for group hangouts—whether with coworkers, classmates, or friends. If you live nearby, it’s basically your go-to spot for nights you don’t feel like cooking. 📍 Tairyou Ichiba 🅿️ Street parking available (free & paid options in the neighborhood) 📞 Reservations highly recommended (it’s packed every night 🔥) 💡 If no one answers the phone… it’s full 😅 Try calling later or another day. ⚠️ DO NOT walk in without a reservation—you’ll just be disappointed 😂 #VancouverLife #EatPlayVan #VancouverFoodie #BurnabyEats #Metrotown #FoodAdventures #VanExplorer
