【Travel】 One-Day Trip to Bern, Switzerland’s Capital
I had no big expectations for Bern before visiting, but once I arrived, everything felt so beautifully surprising! Bundesplatz (Federal Square) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A 3-minute walk from Bern Train Station. There’s a fountain in the square—be sure to go to the back of the Bundeshaus (Federal Palace). From there, you can fully appreciate Bern’s undulating, three-dimensional terrain! 🏛️ Zytglogge (Clock Tower) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A 3-minute walk away. This marks the start of Bern’s main urban area, lined with charming, old-world European-style buildings—total eye candy! ⏰ Einstein Haus (Einstein House) Rating: ⭐️⭐️ A 3-minute walk along the old town’s main street. It’s next to a small bar; I just peeked at it from the outside and moved on. 🧐 Berner Münster (Bern Cathedral) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A 2-minute walk off the main street. It’s absolutely spectacular! Similarly, highly recommend walking to the back of the cathedral—the view doesn’t disappoint! ⛪️ Restaurant Kloetzlikeller Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Head back to the main street. I saved its location on Google Maps a day in advance, specifically coming for its specialty: Suure Mocke (sour braised beef). It was as delicious as promised! 🤤 They also serve cheese fondue, but I’d had it before, so I skipped it this time. Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (Justice Fountain) Rating: ⭐️ I don’t get why so many travel bloggers recommend this spot—there are similar statues all along the main street. Keep walking, and you’ll reach the end of the main street anyway! 💧 Bärengraben (Bear Pit) Rating: ⭐️⭐️ Leave the main street, cross a bridge, and it’s about a 6-minute walk. I thought I’d miss seeing the bears, but just as I was about to leave—they showed up! 🐻 Rosengarten (Rose Garden) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A 4-minute uphill walk. It was late winter/early spring, and the flowers by the road were in nice bloom (they looked like cherry blossoms, but I’m not sure). The view of Bern’s urban area from here is lovely! 🌸 Historisches Museum Bern (Bern Historical Museum) Rating: ⭐️⭐️ Take buses 6/7/8 from the train station (8-minute ride). The building itself is grand, but I only stopped by for a quick photo op. 🏛️ Gurten (Gurten Mountain) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Super highly recommended! Take tram line 9 from the train station to “Wabern Gurtenbahn,” then walk 3 minutes uphill to the Gurtenbahn cable car station. Once at the top, there’s a tall observation tower—climb the stairs to the top, and you’ll have a panoramic view of all Bern! You can even see the rolling Alps in the distance. The big lawn here is also incredibly soothing! Just a heads-up: the wind is really strong at the top, so bundle up! ⛰️💨 Most other major Swiss cities owe their beauty to rivers, lakes, or mountains. But what drew me most to Bern is the city itself—its old town, its unique 3D-like layout, plus Gurten Mountain, which makes it stand out from the rest. #Switzerland #Bern #EuropeTravel
