Blausee (Blue Lake), Switzerland

Stayed in Thun Town on a cloudy day. After exploring both Spiez and Thun in one day, I had an extra day left to visit Blausee (Blue Lake) and Bern. Blausee Scenic Area isn’t large—an hour is more than enough to wander around. I even waited in line for a boat ride: an elderly boatman rowed the boat and shared stories about the lake with us, which added a warm, nostalgic touch. 😊 Blausee is one of the spots I think is least affected by weather. Even on cloudy days, its crystal-clear blue water (said to get its hue from glacial minerals) still looks stunning—like a piece of turquoise embedded in the mountains. 💧 Note: The Swiss Travel Pass doesn’t cover entry to Blausee; you need to buy a separate ticket (around 22 CHF for adults). If you have extra time, it’s worth a visit. Also, Oeschinen Lake nearby is said to be equally breathtaking—with emerald waters surrounded by alpine meadows, it’s a favorite among locals for hiking and picnics. 🚶♂️ Extended Travel Guide (200+ Words) How to Get There: From Thun, take a train to Frutigen (15 minutes), then switch to bus 21 to “Blausee” stop (20 minutes)—the bus drops you right at the entrance. The train ride offers views of rolling hills and wooden chalets, so don’t miss the window! 🚂 Ticket & Timing: Entry fee is ~22 CHF/adult; boat rides cost an additional 10 CHF (30-minute tour). Arrive by 10 AM to avoid crowds—weekdays are quieter than weekends. What to Do: Besides the boat tour, walk the 1.2km circular trail around the lake. The path is flat and easy, with viewpoints to snap photos of the lake’s blue waters against pine forests. In summer, you can swim in designated areas (water is cold but refreshing!). Nearby Bonus: If you have half a day extra, head to Oeschinen Lake (40 minutes by bus from Blausee). It’s less crowded than Blausee and offers hiking trails up to waterfalls—pack a picnic to enjoy by the lake. Weather Prep: Even on cloudy days, alpine winds can be chilly—bring a light jacket. Wear comfortable shoes for the lake trail. #GodsTearOnEarth #Switzerland
