⛰️Architecture | American Museum of Natural History Gilder Center(2)
🌄The undulating facade of the Gilder Center provides a visual connection between the two sides of the campus. The wall is designed with eye-catching large-scale bird-safe glass, and the Milford pink granite used on the wall is the same type of stone used at the Central Park West entrance. 🌊 The diagonal pattern of the stone slabs evokes both geological stratification and the rich textures and surfaces of the museum's 77th Street side. 🌄 🌄Upon entering the Gilder Center, visitors find themselves in the five-story Kenneth C. Griffin Exploration Atrium, a large space illuminated by natural light from a grand skylight. The design of the building is inspired by the way wind and water shape the landscape, as well as the erosion of ice by hot water. 🌊 🌊 The textures, colors, and flowing forms of the Griffin Atrium are inspired by the canyons of the American Southwest, a design that also brings vitality to the grand entrance of the Gilder Center, evoking feelings of awe, excitement, and a spirit of exploration. 🌟 #NewYork 🌉🌟
