🇦🇹 Salzburg Guide|Detailed Route + Sound of Music Locations

Salzburg is incredibly beautiful and totally worth a visit! This guide took a while to put together since I wanted to combine classic attractions with Sound of Music filming spots 📍. Check out for photo locations from the movie, which are also marked with 🌟 in the text version. Hope you have a fantastic trip! 📍Salzburg Hbf (Main Station) Download the ÖBB app to buy the Salzburg Card (cheaper than buying on-site). Scan the code at the 【red machine】in the station to print your voucher, then exchange it for the physical card at the office counter nearby. (Note: it’s a two-step process! If you forget, there’s also an exchange point at Mozart Square.) -1️⃣ (By bus) Nonnberg Abbey 🌟 The iconic gate where Maria knocks in The Sound of Music! The bus ride crosses the river with lovely views. Get off one stop earlier for the iron bridge—it’s about 400m extra walk. -2️⃣ Hohensalzburg Fortress The Salzburg Card includes the funicular and entry ticket. The State Rooms are free before 11 AM, so I recommend visiting in the morning! A stunning photo spot for the fortress: 📍Blick auf die Salzburg Altstadt — mark it on your map! -3️⃣ Salzburg Cathedral Entry: €5 (not included in the Salzburg Card). Organ performances at fixed times. If you don’t want to pay, go to the Salzburg Panorama Museum next door. Take the elevator to the top, pass through the art exhibition to an outdoor corridor—you can enter the cathedral from there and overlook three squares! Free with Salzburg Card + Chinese audio guide (quite informative!). -4️⃣ Residenzplatz + Kapitelplatz + Mozartplatz -5️⃣ Cafe Konditorei Famous for Mozartkugel chocolates 🍫 -6️⃣ 🌟 Panorama Altstadt Climb the stairs for a classic Sound of Music shot! -7️⃣ Mozart Theater -8️⃣ 🌟 Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz (Sound of Music wall) -9️⃣ 🌟 Pferdeschwemme (Horse Pond) (Smaller spots—skip if not interested!) -🔟 Getreidegasse (Shopping street) + Mozart’s Birthplace Lined with historic buildings and cute shops 🛍️ -1️⃣1️⃣ Mozartsteg 🌟 (Love Lock Bridge) -1️⃣2️⃣ Mozart Residence Modest exhibition—free with Salzburg Card -1️⃣3️⃣ (By bus/walk) 🌟 Mönchsberg Take the elevator up (free with Salzburg Card). Perfect at sunset! Great views, and you can often see paragliders soaring near the fortress 🪂 -1️⃣4️⃣ Mirabell Palace & Gardens 🌟 Absolutely gorgeous! 💡 TIPS: Highly recommend the Salzburg Card! The fortress ticket alone almost covers its cost. Other highlights include the Panorama Museum and Mönchsberg elevator. Several museums are also included—make the most of it! #Salzburg #TravelGuide #SoundOfMusic #Austria #Mozart #SalzburgCard #EuropeTravel 🎶🏰📸
