🇦🇺 Day 2: Sydney to Darwin Road Trip – Now in Longreach! 🚗💨
Today was TOUGH. Started at 7 AM, drove 11 hours straight, and arrived at 6 PM 😫. Originally planned for 6 days – now squeezed into 5! 🚀 Tomorrow’s goal: Mount Isa! 🌙 Last night I finally got 6 hours of sleep… but I was FREEZING! ❄️ It dropped to 0°C 🥶, and my sleeping bag is only rated for 10°C. Thank goodness I brought thermal layers and every piece of clothing I owned – felt like going back to my grandma’s house in winter, buried under three quilts! 🛌 🌫️ Today’s drive started with nightmare conditions: Thick fog across NSW for 3 hours! Visibility was only 5-10 meters 😵. Drove with fog lights + hazard lights on, totally nerve-wracking. But a highlight – I finally saw live kangaroos! 🦘 (Even though there were still plenty on the road… 😔) ☀️ Once I hit Queensland, everything changed: Sunny skies, 29°C! 🔥 Meanwhile I was still wearing thermals… literally baking. Big rant: My Belong mobile service had NO signal for 600 km between two small towns in QLD! 📵 But weirdly… my phone’s 5G was full bar 📶! Ended up using that to check in. Australia, sort out your coverage – who’s really winning here?? 🍴 Stopped in Charleville for 30 mins to grab a quick bite. Road conditions were decent but narrow – two lanes, everyone doing 110-120 km/h. ⚠️ PSA: OVERTAKING CAN BE DEADLY. I almost had a head-on collision today 😰: was overtaking a truck on an uphill, didn’t see an oncoming truck till the last second. My heart shot straight to my throat… Thankfully I reacted in time. Lesson learned: if you can’t see 1 km ahead – DO NOT OVERTAKE. 🌌 Ending on a high – here’s a shot of the night sky from my campsite ✨ Absolutely BREATHTAKING!! Looks like a wallpaper already. #DarwinRoadTrip #SydneyToDarwin #TravelDiary #WHVAustralia #WHV #AustraliaRoadTrip
