🇨🇦 3-Day $400 Halifax Budget Trip (No Car & No Cash!)

✈️ Flight: Ottawa-Halifax via Flair Airlines — $115 🚌 Transport: HFXGO app for cashless bus tickets 🏠 Accommodation: Saint Mary’s University dorm single room — $70/night 🍽️ Food: The Bicycle Thief lived up to its hype! Lobster roll was delicious and huge — $29.99 after tax 🦞 Day 1 Arrived in Halifax at night 🌙. Took the bus from the airport to downtown, then transferred to the university dorm. Halifax DT felt clean and safe—almost no one on the streets (way better than Ottawa’s Rideau area 😇). Day 2 (🚶‍♂️ 20+ km walk—perfect for explorers!) 🕘 9-11 AM: Walked from SMU to Dalhousie University (mainly to see the school that charged me a $100 application fee for nothing 😤). Passed cute houses and grabbed lunch on the way. 🕚 11 AM-3 PM: Walked to Point Pleasant Park (like Gatineau Park or Montreal’s Mount Royal but coastal! 🌊). Did the outer loop first, ate lunch by the sea, then explored the inner trail. Historical buildings were meh, but the forest hike was lovely! 🕒 3-6 PM: Strolled to the Waterfront 🚢. Chilled by the piers and watched an elderly couple fish for 30 minutes (they caught a flounder! 🐟). 🕕 6-10 PM: Joined a half-day tour to Peggy’s Cove ($89 all-inclusive via TripShepherd—highly recommended!). The guide shared fun facts (e.g., Haligonians = Halifax residents, NS = New Scotland 🏴). Most shops were closed at Peggy’s Cove, but the evening crowd was thin and peaceful. Spent 2 hours watching the sunset 🌅, then returned to DT and visited Halifax Citadel for night views before heading back to the dorm. Day 3 (Catching missed spots!) 🕙 10 AM: Returned to the Waterfront. Foggy weather made the waves crashing against rocks feel extra calming 🌫️. 🕛 12 PM: Grabbed a famous lobster roll from The Bicycle Thief 🥪. Takeout came with 3 boxes (salad + roll, fries, bread)! 🕜 12-3 PM: Explored Public Garden 🌸—early June flowers were in full bloom! Also visited Halifax Citadel and the Old Town Clock 🕰️ for panoramic city views. 🕓 4 PM: Took the bus to the airport ✈️. Security was quick (<30 mins). Flair checked bags strictly, but I only had a backpack so it was fine! Final Thoughts Loved Halifax—a small but refined city! 🏙️ While no-car travel means missing distant attractions, Halifax’s walkability and concentrated sights make it perfect for a short trip. Skip museums if short on time, or add a day for them. Ideal for a weekend getaway! 💙 #CanadaTravel #TravelDiary #BudgetTrip #ExploreHalifax #NoCarNeeded 🍁✨
