🇨🇦 Must-Try Crispy German Pork Knuckle in Waterloo
This German restaurant has been around since 1873! The staff wear old-fashioned costumes, and what’s more, the prices are really affordable with huge portions of meat. The elderly waitress was especially cute! 😊 🌭 Bratwurst with potato salad - $16 The waitress recommended the Bratwurst. I personally found it a bit too salty, but my boyfriend thought it was delicious! The potato salad was just so-so—small chunks of boiled, cooled potatoes with a slightly salty seasoning. I think ordering a single sausage ($5) might be more cost-effective! 🐽 Pig tail Also $5 a piece! Highly recommended! 🥇 It’s stewed to perfection—not too mushy, but tender and soft. The seasoning has a hint of sweetness, and it’s full of collagen. 🍖 Bavarian Smoked Pork Hock The star of the show—the big pork knuckle! The skin is incredibly crispy (though a bit too charred). The meat inside is delicious, super tender with a perfectly balanced slight saltiness. Our favorite part was the sauerkraut—it has a gentle acidity that won’t make you jump, soft in texture, and you can keep eating it without it being too salty. 🍜 Soup of the day It seemed to be beef with various vegetables. Let’s just say it’s not the most exciting soup, but it’s a good way to get some veggies! 🥦 #WaterlooFood #WaterlooLife #OntarioFood #CanadaLife #WaterlooEats
